Okay guys, I own a 2004 Rubicon. Today while driving (during day light) I noticed the little light on the dash, that signifies the fog lights are on, was on! Upon arriving to my destination, I checked to see if they were indeed on. Yup! They were on!! My headlights were completely in the "off" position. Yet, my fogs stayed on. I did recently perform the little trick to bypass not being able to have fogs on and brights on simultaneously. I thought, "Hmm...maybe that's the problem." Nope! Fogs still stay on. All this is happening as the jeep sits on my driveway. Fogs stay on. When I tap on the switch where you turn fog lights on, the little light in the dash goes out, then on, then out, then back on. As if there's a small short somewhere preventing the fogs from turning off. I wouldn't know where to begin so that is why I'm needing some help from you all. Anyone experience this issue in the past? So, in short, my fog lights stay on no matter what!! Help! I had to take the fuse out from under the hood for them to stay off, because we are leaving and I don't want my battery to drain....Thanks in advance guys!!
Its the switch on the turn signal. They are notorious for crapping out. You can either buy a new one ane replace the entire assembly or just run seperate wires and switch (the cheap and simple option). In the mean time I would just unclip the plugs by the lights.

my battery kept dying cuz i had that problem and never noticed it but i just unpluggled them like everyone else said to do. and im to lazy to buy a new switch so maybe next year..... or the year after i dont need my fogs anyways.
Okay, sorry guys for prolonging this thread.....just need one more piece of advice. For now I just disconnected my fogs so that they can just stay off. As mentioned above, I too, don't necessarily need them. Now, what about the little fog light indicator light inside the dash? It still stays on. Correct me if I'm wrong, but won't the tiny little light eventually drain my battery? Is there a fuse or something of some sort I can remove to keep it from staying on?? The only time it stays off is when I remove the fuse under the hood. But don't I need that particular fuse for other things to function properly? Thanks guys! Again, I apologize for prolonging this thread....
The only thing you can do is take the instrument panel out and un-plug the little bulb that is clipped in the slot behind that indicator. I let mine go for over a year, and weeks at a time w/o running the Jeep. No problems, just annoying to look at.
Mine do the same thing, I pulled the fuse from the fuse /relay box under the hood and lights are now off as well as no dash indicator. I have replaced the Multi Function Switch and for some reason after none of the lights would work. Put old MFS back in and now back to the fog light problem. My MFS connector is also melted under the dash so short may be there as well.
Going to replace that connector and try again in the near future or may just put my KC driving lights on and remove factory fogs.

When I bought my 02 TJ the fuse was already out for the fog lights, when i put one back in to see why they also stayed on. As far as I can tell nothing else is effected by having that fuse out. I've seen in other threads that people have taken apart and cleaned the module behind the steering wheel and that has worked to fix the problem, haven't tried myself though. Good Luck!
Having the same issue, but I'm pretty sure it's the turn signal light stick. The fog light indicator light stays on when I have the switch pulled out in the "fog light on" position and the light stays on when I push in "off position," but when I push in further and hold, the light goes OFF. As soon as I release pressure, back ON.
I'm working on the jeep tomorrow. After reading this thread, I will probably remove the fuse until I have time to fix.
Have a great Thanksgiving everyone!
Mine has the same issue. It didn't have a fuse when I bought it, and I figured out why quickly. I'm planning to grab a Multi-Fundtion-Switch from the junk yard. I think the switches from certain years of Neon's are interchangable as well.
You can replace the multi-function switch for $65 (lifetime warranty) from Auto Zone. Took about 20 mins to replace and there are a bunch of YouTube videos on how to do it.
Hardest part is sliding the little red tab to unlock the harness, once you do that it's simple.
If you go the route (the only proper "fix" for this) of purchasing and installing a new multifunction switch you must remember to pull the flasher relay from the old one and install it on the new one or you will have no blinkers. It is easy. It is just a plug-in relay about a cubic inch in size. Pop it out and plug it into the new MFS.
I normally only buy aftermarket stuff when it is an upgrade. Most junk at AutoZone is not worth your time and money, especially relays, sensors, switches, etc. They simply wear out or break very quickly in most cases.
However, I was broke when my MFS gave out. I kept coming outside in the morning to head to work only to find my battery dead from the fogs being on all night. I started disconnecting them, but I use them every night on the way home out in the boonies. Plugging and unplugging them every day caused me to break one of the connectors.
I gave in, bought a new connector pigtail and wired it in. Then I got a new MFS at AutoZone. It was made in Mexico, which is better than most of the China-made junk AZ sells. It was still expensive (for me at that time) @ $85. But the install was easy and fairly quick.
Despite it being an AutoZone part it has held up for this past year. I am fairly certain that it will die in a few years (meaning in less than half the time a Mopar multifunction switch would have died). But I will have sorted all the expensive problems this jeep has by then and will be able to afford the real Mopar part. Until then this Mexico-made part is working very well for me. I upgraded to JW Speaker LED fogs and am using the stock switch and wiring with no issues.
This is an annoying problem that is fairly common. I hope you get it solved to your satisfaction. Just remember to snatch that flasher unit from your old MFS if you decide to install a new one and you will be good.
Good luck!
