front axle shafts

Anybody pulled the front axle shafts and found them to be rusted? 2006 Rubi, just heavy surface rust and none on the inner seal surface--just on areas inside the axle tube area. Just seems like heavy rust to me.
Thanks

Yep. Those outer seals are really more dust and dirt seals than liquid seals, so some small amount of water/water vapor gets in there. I haven't worried about it yet, but when I have them out, I always take some emery cloth to the part where the inner seal rests just to clean it up and keep it from gouging the seal.

They will rust, it is normal.

Seals are easy install. You do not need to take the diff cover off. But since you're down there, when was the last time you changed the fluid? What about the u-joint? If you're going to pull the shafts you might as well get the other easy stuff while you're there IMO.
