front dif

I have a 2002 wrangler sport and the front differential is leaking at the front drive shaft connection. The leak isn't bad, its just gumming up from a small accumulation of fluid. I'm thinking its the pinion bearing, does this sound right? I've been told there are two, an inner and outer is this correct? Thanks for the answers in advance.

That would be the pinion seal that is leaking.

The seal is prolly $5 at an auto parts store... and its not that hard at all to replace really. Here is a pretty nice writeup on how to do it Tech Section - Pinion Seal Replacement - TJ/YJ

The pinion seal is relatively easy to replace,
1. remove front driveshaft
2. remove nut holding yoke
3. remove yoke
4. remove seal
5. put in new seal and hook everything back up

you will need a special tool or homemade tool to hold the yoke in place while you torque the nut holding the yoke to the proper specs.
A lift is highly recommended but not needed

If it is not leaking badly I would not mess with it as there is always the possibility of not getting the preload of the pinion set correctly.
This reminds me of the military classifications
class 1 wetness obseved but no drops (don't mess with it)
class 2 wet with a visible drop forming but not dripping (keep close eye on it, replace if needed)
class 3 can visibly see it dripping (attention required)

just ensure the dif fluid stays filled and not contaminated
