Oil can and will usually cause the lock tumblers to stick, don't ever squirt oil into a lock. WD-40 (technically classified as a solvent) is thin enough that the lock tumblers won't stick plus it will evaporate leaving it dry within a few days.
Just got the Jeep so no freezing there, however with my other cars I did have an issue. I fixed it by spraying with wd40 to remove the current grease, waiting a few days for it to dry out then pouring in dry graphite. Its part of my fall getting ready for winter duties.
Wow! This is an old thread that's still breathing life. Haven't had an issue with any door locks or junk a** electric windows in my car freezing since reading this thread 3 years ago.
There was another recently started topic here on this same subject that I replied to asking about spray graphite though. Works great on locks, windows and many other things!!
