since the filler location has to be above the top of the tank, I don't think the stock filler location would be high enough for the tanks I've seen that have been relocated to behind the rear seat
Won't work.. Unless you plan on cutting the floor and sinking the cell down then it still wouldn't be at a good angle and would kind of defeat the purpose.
You can see how high the filler is on the right side of mine.
I have to open the tailgate unzip and flip my back window up every time.. It's kind of a pain, not near as bad in warmer months when my back window isn't on. No issues with fumes unless I drip it around the fill neck after pumping. I'm usually very careful taking the pump out since I've been riding motorcycles for 10+ years and you don't want to spill it on their tanks. Other than that, I didn't cheap out on my connectors and I used Russell fuel hose and fitting assembly lube/sealant on them. No leaks or fumes come out. It's vented under in the engine bay.
As stated the top of the tank is too high but I have run a new filler with a boat style gas cap and neck over to the passenger side and put a bracket that puts it right above the tub rail. It wound up right behind the B pillar so there was little chance of hitting it on anything.
We set it up so the owner can put a filler cup around it that sandwiches the soft top material if he ever decides to run side windows.
I saw that style on google images. I'm not sure if I want to go that route yet. A 19gallon tank will last some time for me so opening the tailgate and flipping the soft top window should be doable but I'll see how much of a hassle it is after I get everything installed
I know Motobilt just started making one but I haven't looked on their site to see how much it costs. I think there was another option listed on the pirate write up but can't remember if that company still offers them.
Another option would be to use a YJ fuel pump since it mounts differently.
Your best option is rci 2162a with genright ring...then the pump is a perfect fit inside the tank. With the rci2161 it hangs and you have to put self tappers through it. The genright is the best cause you can easily unscrew it if needed to work on it. I love mine.
Has anyone had creative ideas with what to do with the old filler location. Mines just empty idk if I want to put something else there. I just finished the fuel cell the other day thanks for the help everyone
