The Tj gauge is notorious for being a mess
I trip my odometer and fill up as soon as I hit 250 miles

mines actually at 1/2 tank when it reads a little more than 1/4. when the light comes on i have around 5 gallons left. i've learned to live with it by using the trip odometer.

See? Sounds about the same here. I had it buried and still had a couple gallons left.

The odometer is your friend

it's weird quirks like this that make me love my jeep even more though.

To fix the inaccurate fuel gauge, replace the fuel pump which has the fuel gauge sender on it. The fuel gauge sender is what controls the gauge on the instrument panel. The fuel gauge sender cannot be replaced separately, it is spot-welded onto the fuel pump.

The fuel pump is inside the tank, you have to drop the tank to get to it.
