I am having to replace my fuel pump and I need to know if my tank is a 15 or 19 gal. I called the dealership, gave them my VIN and they said it was a 19, however when I ran my tank pretty close to dry I only filled up with 14.5 gal. So is there any other way I can find out. Thanks
I plugged my VIN in there and it said it was a 19 gal. tank as well. It just seems smaller because when I fill up, I have never put more than 15 gallons.
Mine was the same way until I changed the fuel pump. With the old pump I could only put in 15 gallons when it was down on the 'E' and with the new Bosch it will take about 18 gallons when at the same spot. The float was giving wrong info to the gauge.
The fuel gauge is notoriously inaccurate and will usually indicate it's empty even when there are still 4-5 gallons in the tank. I never fill up until I'm nearly at the bottom of the reserve zone below the 'E'.
Use only Bosch or Mopar, period. Other inexpensive brands like Airtex and Spectra will fail sooner than you'd like, especially given the complexity and PITA-level of the replacement job. I made the mistake of trying a Spectra replacement fuel pump years ago and it started failing right at about a year. I lasted 3 more months after that before giving up and replacing it with a Bosch.
No idea JimsJeep, though I hear what you're saying on Carter. However, I and too many others have been bit too often by other brands so I'm sticking with the Bosch/Mopar recommendation as they are known to work fine and last a long time.
Thanks for the input everybody. I think I will end up going with the Bocshe
