future plans

got stuck in the woods yesterday and had to call my buddy to bring his dually dodge down to me and winch me out . made me realize that if im gunna play the BA jeep thing im not calling anyone for help anymore .

looking into a winch and trying to decide on a brand and weight . what are your prefferences .

im also planning on lockers for the front at least

looking into a larger lift as well.

as for lockers im looking into aussie lockers for the front . im only thinking front because im on a budget and wouldnt need a selectable locker if i put it in 2wd.

for the lift im leaning towards a trailmaster lift .

Suspension Lift Kits For Jeep - JCWhitney
any suggetions or thoughts on all this.

X2-Warn winch. You need it to work at the worst possible times so it is worth getting a good quality made USA product.

If you were a diver and needed an underwater flash light would you go to the bargain bin for your batteries or the best lithium one you could get your hands on?

Do you have a hi-lift jack? That would be a must...

Leave the HiLift at home. A bottle jack is more useful and takes up less space. My HiLift stays in the garage. I can't even change tires with it in my driveway because the suspension flexes too much. Waste of money.

The high lift can be used to winch out your jeep when stuck. YouTube has a vid on it.

i have a hilift already on the tire carrier and it works just fine for short pulls as a winch but what i really needed was a winch that could pull me back up the hill i had gotten stuck on and ended crashed through the small trees and in a swampy area at the bottom. any oppinions on the lift?

Those things are badass!! My buddy had one on his CJ and had to install an electric fan because the winch covered the ENTIRE GRILLE and blocked all the airflow!! (Plus, he was running a 401, so that's probably the REAL reason why the thing ran hot.....)

Actually it will work but not too good, I did use it once to get off a rootwad I took the wrong way around.

It's made by BTF (Blue Torch Fabworks)
I like it. It's small, well-constructed, and does its job well. I'm very utilitarian. I don't go for the accessories with all the gizmos like front bumpers with brushguards or stingers or rear bumpers with tire carriers, etc. I like to keep it simple.

On a side note.....are you sure that you want to lock the front instead of the rear?

I carry a small tool bag just i'n case kind thing and unalways bring zip ties and duck tape! I always go with more then one jeep! My cuz has a Cj and he has gotten my 4 door out multiple times! I'm not a high lift jack fan at all! I think they are dangerous ! I'll carry a cum along if I think I need it that day!

That's true. But still better than a HiLift. Not to mention that I always try to wheel with someone else with a winch. (oops, I guess I just mentioned it....)

I guess a HiLift jack has its specialized place in the world, just not in MY Jeep.

very nice . i carry a hi lift for those situations were i need to jack one side and get some rocks or a log under the tires for when im stuck in the mud. haha . and yeah i was pretty sure i was gunna lock the front because from what i understand a dana 30 on the front of a tj will hold up much better when locked then a 35 on the rear. also i would be able to get away with an aussie locker or a powertrax insted of a detriot or airlocker of sorts because it will disengage when in 2wd for dd use.
someone correct me if im wrong .

I just read that a 8274 has a different mounting plate than the rest.

That's because the 8274s are monsters. (See post #13)
