Gap in between skid plate and frame??

I have a 1 inch transfer case drop in my 2001 TJ, it's a wrangler sport with the 4.0 straight six cylinder. I didn't install the lift kit. In the right front corner of my skid plate (passenger side front) it looks as though there is about a 3/16 inch gap in between the transfer case drop and the frame. There isn't any gap in between the rest of the transfer case drop and the frame, just that corner.

I havent tried to tighten it up yet. This weekend I'm going to try and put a jack under it and see if I can close the gap and tighten the bolt.

I guess my question is this... what does that bolt screw into? Is there an insert welded inside the frame that this bolt screws into? Is there a nut inside the frame that this bolt screws into? Is the frame simply drilled and tapped? Is the skid plate falling out from under these jeeps a common problem? If worse comes to worse is this something that I should have a few tack welds holding the transfer case drop bars to the frame and then welding the skid plate to the drop bars?

Thanks for any advice you all may have!!

Any chance of posting a quick pic of what it looks like to help determine.

I believe that there is a welded nut insert in the frame that it screws into. Its been known that sometimes the welds break on these inserts also, causing grief trying to install.

Yeah, I'll take a picture when I get home if it's not raining. I have found that the gap has been growing ever so slightly over the last few weeks...

Did you have to remove the skid plate in order to have the insert welded back in? it doesn't look like there's any way to get to the insert with the skid plate still in place.

Well, upon further inspection it appears that the insert in question has already been re-welded in and that weld is what is creating the gap in between the skid plate and the frame. No big deal I guess... thanks for the help!!

Can't help you with finding the bolts, but I discovered the front bumper bolts on my '97 are the same thread. Note: the skid plate uses different thread bolts 97-02 and 03-06.

But, I got new nutcerts here..

Buy Mopar Car Truck Parts | Genuine Discounted Mopar OEM Auto Parts | Mopar Accessories

It's impossible to find them on their site without the correct part number. There's 2 different types depending which year TJ you have.
6035739 (97-02) half inch
6506629AA (03-06) M12

If you need 1 nutcert, get at least 3 because you will mess some up trying to install them.
Might even pay to get 1 or 2 dozen because they will all crap out eventually.
