yep just leave it on, not a big "glob" of it but it should still be there, if you google "jeep TJ no bus" there are a ton of threads about it, almost all fixed by the CPS

first check to make sure it has a good connection, wouldnt be a bad idea to unplug it and put a LITTLE bit of that dielectric grease in there and see if that does anything, if not than just replace it only a $50 part and easy to change, if you do change it make sure to unplug the battery for a few minutes before you start it up to reset your jeeps computer so it can learn the new sensor a bit quicker

I had the same issue with my Jeep. I replaced the CPS, cleaned the connections on the guage cluster, cleaned all the connections at the ECM and checked all the electrical connections. None of that did anything. So I went through and thoroughly cleaned every ground wire in the engine bay. Once I did that....she fired right up, NO BUS was gone and she's ran perfect ever since.

as far as cleaning the grounds, im not sure how the guy who suggested it did it, but the way ive always done it was to just pour some coke on them and take a wire brush to them, if they are REALLY corroded it would be a good idea to take them off and clean under them as well

Dude you are the best. Thank you so much for all your help. Sorry if I'm bothering you with all my questions, just lemme know - I won't be offended.
But yeah this helps a lot. What do I need to test if it works? Before I replace it?

you cant test it without a special chrysler tool ( DRB scan tool) according to the FSM anyway, best to just get a new one with a warranty, if it doesnt fix it just return it but from what ive read on here it SHOULD fix it

At autozone. The guy here swears its a computer issue. And theres a code for my tps when he checked it. Also he thinks maybe replacing the speed sensor would help. But he swears its my ecm. What to do..? The ecm is close to $400 but he said chrysler makes some bad ecms for their cars...

well first thing you should do is stop shopping at autozone, they are a bunch of fucktards that couldnt tell you the difference between a camry and a jeep i dont recall you saying your check engine light is on? if not the TPS code is prolly just in the history and i wouldnt worry about it to much, you will know if your TPS goes it will start to feel like its missing all the time and such, id go to advanced auto and pick up a borg warner CPS (if they make it in borg warner, i have had great luck with their sensors, nice warranty as well) and if you want i know they sell borg warner TPS's their, i have one in mine

another thing to check would be all the fuses behind your glovebox, but remember there is a TSB out for this so you might want to just bring it to the dealer and tell them to look up TSB 08-15-99 and take a look at the jeep, just make sure they arent going to charge you to look at it first

id try the CPS first, if that doesnt work return it and clean the grounds, and check all the fuses behind the glove box, if that doesnt work start tracing the wires going to the PCM might be a short

BTW i want to say that what i said above is my personal opinion on autozone, others may like them but after buying 6 suspension components at 1 time for my S10 and every single one of them was either wrong of bad from stock, i keep away as much as i can.

it is possible, cant hurt to try im pretty sure any sensor that feeds info to the PCM can cause the no bus msg, again PRETTY sure

Yeah just to restate for clarification...
The spedometer and rom gauges drop. I get no bus message. The engine light usually comes on. The airbag light comes on. And about half the time all the other gauges (oil, fuel), drop.... Im startin to think it has to be ecm or faulty/shirt wire somewhere. Im takin it to my dads friend tomorrow morning. Ill post tomorrow night if i learn anything new.

just try a google search for jeep tj no bus, theres a ton of threads on it and most of the fixes are CPS / wiring, i highly doubt its the computer itself, and id toss a $50 cps that can be changed in minutes in before i tried the computer, even the TPS takes less than 10minutes to change and id try that to, if it doesnt work just return it, start with the cheap stuff first

talked to my dad's friend for an hour today. When i pulled in it had the 'no bus' reading so I messed with the trip meter, wiggled it a little like a read in another post and the gauges immediately came back! haha go figure.. that confirms its an electrical problem.. he really doesnt think its a cps issue.. checked fuses, etc.. everythings plugged in fine and dandy that we can see. but just a random question.. the fuses for ABS are gone.. does that mean I ahve no airbags or anti-brake system..

but yeah.. im going to drive it tomorrow and see how the gauges do.. if it keeps working ill be stupidly amazed haha.. but i doubt the trip meter wiggle is permanent... maybe something in the gauge cluster is messed up.. should i try taking that apart? the guy i talked to said no cause wed probably mess up more things..

but on another note, i found out the radiator is leaking a good amount of fluid and there are some other things leaking a little but not problems yet.. cant wait! haha.. more projects ahead

I think im going to get the car services so I can figure out all things wrong with it, then I'll cake it into my own hands to replace parts..

so yeah, I'll update you tomorrow on how the gauges do
