Gear ratio question

Ok I have a 05 Rocky Mountain edition wrangler with the 44 rear and I think the 35 front, I'm planing to put 35" tires on her this summer and I would like to re-gear both axels. Since I have the 6 speed would I be better off with 4.88 rather than 4.56's? Thanks in advance

Your front axle is a Dana 30. While 4.88 is a commonly recommended ratio for 35" tires and the 5-speed manual transmission, your 6-speed has lower ratio gears inside where 4.56 would be nearly as acceptable for many. If you live in a mostly flat area & care more about lower engine rpms 4.56 would probably be ok. But if you live in an area that is hilly or mountainous, or if you're really an avid offroader, I'd definitely go for 4.88.

It all depends in how much off-roading you do. If you do a lot of it, you will want the 4:88's, if you just occasinaly do it, the 4:56's will be fine with the trans set-up you have.

I don't do much of any as of right now and am looking for an old grand waggoner to fix up as a tow rig so I can use my tj as the toy the I intended it to be when I bought it but totaled my pickup last year (2011)
