Hello Forum, thanks for your help. Since I bought my TJ, the gear shift boot has never sat correctly in it’s housing. My gear shift sits toward the very front of allotted space there is no room for the boot. The main problem is that it sometimes obstructs the shifter from going into 1st, 3rd, or 5th gear and I have to reach down, move it out of the way, then get it into gear. Yesterday I ordered a Tuffy Console FULL (066-which includes the shifter housing) and I’ll be installing it this weekend. Any ideas/recommendations on how to get the boot to sit properly. Is it difficult to modify the shifter shaft to sit more towards the rear? Thanks in advance for all your help.
^ same... i just took to boot off and it shifts really smooth. But this weekend im gonna go see if i can find a 2005 or 2006 shift boot because those are the smooth straight leather that wont end up getting in the way of the shifting. like this one in the photo,
I put a body lift on this weekend and couldn't get it to go into reverse. I did what BLK00TJ did. Took out three bolts and the console is loose to be where ever it needs to be. I have a Hurst shifter I am going to install one of these days so I'll reposition the console and bolt it down after that install.
