Getting ready to install my lift....finally!

Well, the time has come that I feel comfortable enough with my leg injury to do the suspension install on my Jeep. I've been waiting until my leg heals to the point where I can walk on it without the use of crutches and that time is at hand!! FINALLY!!

So I'm here to ask if there's anything I should know beforehand about installing the 3" FT lift. I'm pretty mechanically adept, so I doubt it'll give me too many problems. Just wanting to know if anyone else has experience installing this lift and has some tips and advice for me. I'm using a vehicle lift so it should be an easy task. I have full access to an Auto Craft Shop here on base. It's got all the tools I think I'll need. Let me know if anyone thinks of some good advice to send my way.

i fought my xj front springs for a while, cuz i didn't want to walk over to my box and get my spring compressor out. that was dumb. us a spring compressor to crush the springs down a little to get them in, thats my advice. then the axle doesn't have to get moved all over as much.

Also, when adjusting the track bar (it's adjustable), can I do that after the tires are mounted and the Jeep is sitting on the ground? I don't have to do that when the Jeep is still sitting on the hydro lift do I? The directions are pretty good, but that part was a little ambiguous. Thanks for the help so far!!

Anyone feel free to jump in and correct me if I am wrong but based on my experience the instructions should have measurements for each component. You will go ahead and adjust the track bar to the recommended length before installing. Once adjusted, go ahead and install it with everything apart. This will make it easier to install. You will want all the bolts on your control arms to be loose so that you can shift your axle from side to side in relationship to the frame. Once all installed, if the measurements were correct for your Jeep, it will be centered. After you pull it off the lift and measure from the frame to the outside wall of each tire, you will be able to tell if its centered. If not, you will have shorten it or lengthen it depending on how its off center. These adjustments are done much easier (in my opinon) when everything is apart.

If you do it sitting on the ground with the tires on, be prepared to have a ratcheting tow strap handy. The frame will most likely need to be pulled to one side or the other of the axle to get the track bar installed at the correct length. Hope this helps.

That's exactly what I was looking for.....thanks!! Anything else? All the instructions say about the length of the adjustable track bar is that I shouldn't have more than 3 or 4 threads showing at the tie rod end for it to be adjusted correctly. Sounds relatively Army-proof to me....

If that's all it says then I would probably set it with about 2 or 3 threads showing. Question: Are you doing the front or rear first?

Doing the lift tomorrow. Is there a method to the madness in which end I do first? I figured I'd do the front first, but if it's better to start at the rear, I'll go that route.

I would assume you have adjustable trac bars at both ends. So honestly it wouldn't matter which one you do first. Just take your time and have fun.

Naw, just the front. The rear has a track bar relocator bracket.
The included directions have me doing the front first, then the rear, then adjusting the front track bar. I'd rather pick an end and stick with it til it's done. Maybe I'll start with the rear and work my way up to the front. I guess it really doesn't matter.

I'm really looking forward to it. It'll be my first Jeep lift. It looks to be about as simple as they come. It's not as if I'm stretching and long-arming the thing, so I don't see things going too bad. I'll try to take some pics in progress and some after pics.

Nope, doesn't matter which end you start with. But like you said, start with one end and work until it's done, then move to the other. You'll do fine. Def take some pics to document the install. Good luck.
