getting to know a used car means finding problems, questions in reguards to my jeep

Well i got a chance to use my jeep a bit and have come across some problems.

Its a 2001 jeep wrangler sport, 4.0L.
today my CD player stopped working. Before it had a hard time with a burned CD i had made but after a few seconds to load each song it eventually played like normal. This was not with store bought CDs, they worked fine. Today my Cd player started loading like it had before on the burned disk and then gave up and said error, so i tried using a store bought cd (all CDs in perfect condition) and it said error also. tried a few more times with no luck. a few hours later I went back out and tried again with the store bought cd and it worked fine....

anyway, what are some good aftermarket Steros that I can use. Anything plug and play? anything look and fit as well as OEM? or what can I do to fix this CD player?

next, all of my 4 wheel drive lights don't work. only after reading the full owners manual did I learn it even had light. The 4x4 systems (hi and low) work fine.
then, I also learned the jeep is supposed to have a dinger for when im not buckled up. this does not work, but the dinger works when i leave my lights on when the car is off. no problem to me, just wondering if this is a warning sign for something.

also, my Fuel pressure regulator is bad (starts hard unless i prime the system 3 times). what does it cost on average to fix this. i might just live with it and get over it.

sorry for such a long read.

probably just the laser lens fogging up.
try some cleaning discs.

pretty much any after market stereo would work as long as you get the wiring right.

I went to walmart and got a cheap sony cd player, buy a adapter kit thats there as well. easy to install. i wouldnt worry about the 4wheel lights not working, you should be able to tell that there ingauged. Sometimes just sitting there and putting it in gear wont turn on the light, you have to drive a little bit frist before it will turn on. and i wish my seat belt alarm would turn off lol you should be happy it doesnt work. and a new fuel pressure regualtor from autozone is 111 and one at oreillys is around 70, if you can do it yourself it will help. just depends on how much the shop you take it to charges

yeah, all in all none of these problems are a big deal (just as long as that Fuel pressure valve does not cause any problems) The CD player bothers me, but i was looking to replace it anyway. I want something with a bit more power for better speakers and something that has a USB port. I saw these at auto zone for 70 bucks but I dont know how to get em to fit. I have a few friends who do this all the time and can wire them. Just wondering if anyone has had a particular model or brand they stick by.

the one i got was a sony explode, if you already have a cd player in the car then you dont need to a mounting kit just a wiring kit. they plug into your factory wiring and then you make it fit to the wiring of the cd player, just splice and match colors.

There's a thread in the audio section relating to installing a CD player --- i printed it out and used it to install mine. Easy 2 hour process (and that was with me taking my time and being extra careful)

You can use what you want for the most part-- the single DIN install kit surrounds the smaller aftermarket radios and gives a clean install. I prefer Alpine's stuff, but now that you can buy an alpine deck at Best Buy for 150 bucks or so, i am not sure if they live up to their once legendary status anymore. The $150 Alpine i installed in mine recently outperforms the stock head unit on its own -- the IPod port, accesory port and USB port are gravy on top -- but you might get similar results with a $99 Kenwood

I am new to owning wranglers, but i was a heavy equipment mechanic for 6 years in the air force and one thing people like to do is disable anoying alarms, so my guess is that the PO removed, or unplugged the switch that sets off the buzzer

I just ordered a new stereo from Amazon. Here's the link: Amazon.com: Pioneer DEH-P5200HD CD Receiver with HD Radio and iPod Direct Control: Electronics I, myself, think it has a lot of features for the price. It was $129.99 but the price just went up. I still think it's a decent deal. I actually emailed Amazon's customer service dep. and they gave me 20 bucks off because it JUST went up in price yesterday. I've only seen a few others with built in HD radio around this price. I'll tell you how it is if you feel like waiting around a week or so until it gets here and I can install it lol

For that year CD player its a mixed bag with burned CD's. The unit either likes them or it does not.

x2, mine never would play a burnt CD.... and the volume knob was very persnickety.... coupled with the fact that hubby couldn't stand the hoops he had to jump through to play his iPod, and well, it was time to upgrade...

I agree with this, it's something I have done in the past. Look for a plug under your seat.

As for the stereo, if you buy it from Crutchfield.com, they'll supply any wiring and mounting hardware & adapters that you'll need, along with a detailed instillation instruction sheet.
I've been buying from crutchfield for quite some time now, simply because I know I'll have every single part I need.
That said, changing the stereo in my TJ was the easiest stereo I've ever installed!

Well, if you can do without the detailed instruction sheet or whatever it is, Sonic Electronix Car Audio Stereo - Car Subwoofers - Car Amplifiers and Speakers is usually a lot cheaper than crutchfield, and they supply all the installation hardware from what I understand. I've never ordered from them but my brother has and he has had a good experience with them.

If you are worried about installing the cd player or direct fit, most places offer free installation with the purchase or just bite the bullet and have them do it. Its really simple, the harness should hook to the existing wires and adapt to the new unit. The hardest part is getting the old unit out, then you put the new housing in and thats it. good luck!
