Glove Box/Center Console Key

My '98 came with one set of keys with three keys, iginition, a square gas cap key and a round key. The square gas cap key fits in the glove box and center console but won't open it.

What types of keys come with a TJ and how expensive is it to get a new one made? Do you have to go to a dealer?

Check your ignition key in the glove box.. That's what locks and unlocks mine on my 01.

My 99 only has one key, locks/unlocks the doors, tailgate, glovebox and console.

Dig it. I tried again with the ignition key, no dice. Drizzled some WD-40 in both locks and there you go...now they work. The center console is a little tricky still...you just have to be gentle. Thanks.

I'm glad you posted this. I have 1 key for my TJ and I knew it worked with the glove box, doors, & gate, but I haven't got it to work for the center console... time for lube!

I never lock the glove box or console. Thieves will rip them open looking for stuff. Just never leave anything ov value in your jeep.

my center console was tricky at first too. try just putting key in until it stops, then turn it without pressing down into the lock. seems to work every time for me, usually doesn't turn if i press down while turning.
