Go with 15x10's or 16x8's?

35x13 tires..

Have 15x8 wheels right now...not going back to them.

Want to have a smoother ride/ less sidewall bubble.

I want less "float" of the wheel inside the tire.

Should i stay 15 and just go out to 10...

Or should i stay 8 and go up to 16?

What differences will i see with both?

A 10" wheel will be more proned to trail damage .

If you keep the same width tire, you will have the same issues with a 16 x 8 as you have now. Most tire shops in my local area won't put a 13" tire on a 8" rim, so the 15 x 10 might be a good choice. Check with local tire shops and get as much information as you can before you buy though. You may find that you can resolve your wants and needs by going to different tire width.

Unless you plan on buying 35/13/16's to put on 16x9" rims.... stay with 15's and run the 10" wide (trail damage eminent)... or better yet... find a RARE 15x9 rim and call it a day.

I never heard of a 35x13. Do you actually mean 35x12.50 or 35x13.50?

If you are mounting 35x12.50, you want a 15x8 wheel. If you are mounting a 35x13.50, you want a 15x10 wheel. Unless it's strictly a street Jeep in which case you can use a 15x10 for either size. If you offroad and it's a 35x12.50 that you air down, you definitely want the 15x8.

I run 35x13.50 on a 15x10 rim. I have run that rim since I got her in 2005. No issues off road, so I don't understand where the trail damage comment would play in. IMO, I feel a 15x10 rim fits a 13.50 wide tire the best.

If you really think a 15x8 wheel is causing you to have ride issues of any kind (give you're at the correct air pressure) then you've got other issues going on.

Going to get a little tech on ya lol think geometry for a second, its easier to bend or flex something curved already such as the sidewall on an 8" rim ")" verses the straighter or flatter sidewall "!" on a 10" rim. Wider rim is only way to get rid of the wash side to side you get. With it parked just push side to side & watch the tire walk in & out on an 8" rim, find a buddy with 10" wide & do the same, it will have a lot less walk because the structure of the tire is more stabilized & geometricaly shaped. Tire pressure is only slightly helpful. 16" will only gain you half inch less sidewall & would give you only the slightest of benifit in stability if noticable at all. Your Jeep is sweet, profile says it has spacers, loose those & go 10" wide, you will be about an inch more sticking out over your current stance due to backspacing. 12.5 or 13.5 will be fine on them. It will be way more stable on the road & have significant less tire walk. whew.......should I have just said 10" is better lol

You never answered my question asked well above in post #5 as to what your tire's actual width is. I have never heard of an exactly 13" wide tire, it's likely either a 12.5" or 13.5" and which of those two sizes it actually is will determine whether that 15x10 is the best possible choice. I'm not saying their can't be a 13" wide tire, I have just never seen one.

Lotta great tech information already listed.

My only 2 cents... 15" tires are easier to find and cheaper to buy. I'm a fan of seeing tire over rim.

I wonder why these questions don't come up more often.

I have 33x12.50R15 DuraTracs on 15x8 wheels with 3.75 backspacing.
I run them at 25-26psi trying to get the tread to lay flat on the ground.

I have .75-1" of tread (each side of each tire) that doesn't touch the ground.
I believe a 9-10" wide wheel would solve this issue.
Goodyear says minimum of 8.5" wheel width for my tires.
Goodyear also says all the tread should make contact with the road. I asked.

This only concerns me onroad. I understand how a 8" wheel helps in airing down for the trails.

Also, I do feel tire flex when driving. A shorter side wall would help.
It seems for the trails, 33x12.50R15 with a 15x8 wheel is great. Since I drive a lot onroad I would prefer 285/75R16 with a 16x8 wheel.

That's a little too low of an air pressure for a 33x12.50. The goal should not be to get all of the tread to lay flat on the ground which would cause the tire to be underinflated. You don't want the tread/sidewall rolling over during hard corners which would happen if all of the tread was already on the ground. 26-28 psi is about right for a 33x12.50x15 tire. The chalk (crayon) test is probably as responsible for underinflated tires when done by the inexperienced as simple tire neglect is.

weld on bead locks on a set of 15x8s gets you to about 15.75 perfect with 13.50 tires. I will never owner 15x10s again in my life. Lost way to many beads on the trails for no good reason

that size only applies to if i were to choose the 16" rim, in which case Dick Cepek makes their FC II in 35 x 13...

but i agree with you, the 15 x 10 wheel will be for a 35 x 12.5 tire

For offroad use, because you will be airing down when offroad, a 15x8 wheel would be a better choice. The reason being that an aired down 12.5" wide tire (and that width is at its widest point, not where it mounts or its tread width) can more easily stay safely seated when sealed against two edges 8" apart than when they are 10" apart. Most experienced offroaders running a 12.5" wide tire, 33" or 35", run 15x8 wheels for that reason.

Generally speaking, the larger size requires less air pressure. Which is why my tiny/skinny road racing bike tires on my Bianchi road bike required 120 psi yet my 35" MT/Rs only require around 24-26 psi.
