Good news everybody.... my jeep is dead

So its not actually dead but when I went out to her to grab some lunch she wouldn't start. It looks like some water got onto my radio (destroying the "audio/time" button...) My guess is there is a short somewhere. The battery is completely dead and when I open the door the speedometer jumps around... its really strange. Anyone have any other suggestions. Also, if I popped the clutch you think it would start? I don't want to be stuck at work all night.

Yeah, try push-starting it.

It might help to pull the clutch interlink fuse if not done already and it might work for the old jump start clutch thing.. just needs to be rolling a bit.. worth a shot.

I figured I would give that a shot. I'm just worried about not having brake lights in rush hour traffic....

If the battery is truly dead, push-starting it won't work. In fact, if the battery is truly dead, the engine won't even run right, if at all, after removing the connections from a jump start battery.

Before assuming the battery is dead, thorougly clean & tighten the battery connections. They can easily get loose/dirty/corroded enough to make it appear like the battery is dead when it's not.

If the battery is dead and you can finally get things running enough to get home, put it on a charger overnight. The alternator isn't designed to fully charge a dead battery.

If the radio got wet, is it possible that the clock spring got wet too? I hear a wet clock spring will cause all sorts of problems.....

I recently dealt with a battery issue. My gauges did the same thing you are referring to by jumping all over the place and acting crazy when I turned the key. The engine wouldn't crank over, just clicked. Thought my battery was shot, BUT......wiggled the negative battery cable and WHA-LAH....started right up.
My post clamp on the end of the negative cable was shot and the bolt that you tighten down had actually ripped the clamp to where it wouldn't stay tight. So I had to replace it, but that was the issue....not getting a good connection.

If cleaning/tightening the battery connections doesn't do the trick, have it towed home. Odds are it is nothing more than a dead battery or bad battery connection.

If water got into something like the radio, clockspring, etc., odds are everything will be fine there within a few days once it dries out. That should not be the source of it not starting though where it, again, is likely nothing more than that dead battery or battery connection already described.

I had this same exact problem. My battery cable connections weren't tight enough. I ended up getting new cables anyway though. Just have someone jumpstart you so you can drive to a place you can have it fixed/looked at.

Alright here's the scoop. The radio shorted out and killed the battery. I put a new battery in it and it now runs like a top. Now I need suggestions on what type of head unit I should get. I have the goofy "7-speaker" system so if anyone have a any ideas let me know. Thanks again, you guys rock!
