good price for an LS1?

Hey guys, i found a 2001 LS1 4.8L engine that comes with the wiring harness and computer for $600. Ive read these things can make up to 350 hp. should i jump on this? or am i completely stupid and have no clue what i am talking about?

yes, i posted this in the general jeep discussion, but i need an answer promptly and i guess you could say it has something to do with my tj...

Sounds like a great deal if the motor is in good shape with decent miles. You can make more than 350hp with that motor. The 2001 vette motor was 350 stock I believe.

The LS1 is a 5.7....346ci but it's known as a 5.7 for whatever reason. The 4.8 is a truck engine and the little sister of the 5.3/6.0...which one are looking to buy? If it's a Ls1 that's a decent buy depending on mileage.

Yea it's not a LS1 but it is a LS based truck engine which is still a good motor. It's basically a destroked version of the 5.3 motor. I dunno if it's worth $600 but yea..

It's an LS series motor. Not an LS1. $600 might be a bit high for a 4.8l

Was someone trying to pass that off as a LS1?

yep. it was on craigslist. i hope they are just ignorant about it instead of actually knowing it isnt one and trying to sell it as one.

That would be pretty messed up if they truly were trying the push that off as an ls1.
