Got my flares today

Well, the big Brown truck showed up today with my new 6” fender flares. I bought the Smitty's as they were about half the cost of the Bushy's.

When I opened up the box I was pretty happy with what I found...a complete kit including new mounting hardware and good instructions.

Being the "little boy at Christmas" that I am, I immediately went out to the garage and got to work I was pretty worried about getting the old ones off after reading some of the nightmares on here, but found that I'm a pretty lucky guy. All of the bolts got one turn of the wrench and then came out easily by hand

The issues started when I went to install the new units. I swear these flares must have been made in China...no scratch that...Bangladesh by 11 year olds who've never even seen a Jeep All of the mounting holes were off in all directions by at least a 1/4 inch. This is supposed to be a direct fit kit, no drilling. I had to get out the propane heater and carefully heat them up to make them a bit pliable so that I could get them mounted. What should have been a 2 hour job turned into 4.

Moral of the story...YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!

Yeah...I actually questioned myself when I had the first rear half way installed. Checked it and they're on the right sides...POOR quality control!

Dont say that... means it will be here in spokane soon...lol

I just got myself a set of the same. Didnt get instructions... and i was shorted on the mounting hardware...
Then i was told to double the spacers since there was still a gap between the tub and flare... did they offer up more spacers?... nope... told me to go to my local hardware store...
Mine didnt line up either but i think they turned out looking good. Didnt put the little turd thing on either.. i like it without. Now i just need some sliders to cover up the place they used to be...lol

Here is how it turned out.

I think all new flares are hard to line up. I got the Rugged Ridge 7 inch factory style flares and had to work to line them up too. They did come with all the hardware though. The Smitty's look good. I think the RR's look good too.

KellyK...I bought the Rugged Ridge Rocker Armor to cover up the extension holes on mine. It was about $50 and covered the holes until I can afford steel rocker guards. Your Jeep looks good.

Well, it finaly quit raining long enough for me to get some pics of the Jeep with the new flares.

Even though they were a pain to get on, I think they look great! The overall quality is as good as the Bushwhackers I have on my Cummins Dodge. They just need to quit calling them a "bolt on" kit...there's a bit of messing around to get them to fit properly.

Thanks Smitty, she’s starting to come together…just working the little stuff right now. I plan to paint the hard top black this summer…hate the gray!

Next I’m going to get rid of those awful fog lights on there and black out the grill and headlight bezels. Then new shocks (still stock) and some tint for the windows. I'll start looking for bumpers around summer time.
