Had fun time at Jeep dealership

I go to a Jeep new and used dealership on my way to Target via walking. I get talking to a JK owner and I think I peeved him a little bit. To each their own I know. We get into a debate between the TJ and JK. Him saying 4 door is better because he doesn't want to get out of the jeep just to get a backseat passenger in. I asked him isn't that what a Jeep is all about? To not have that great luxury and stay rugged as is? He proceeded to tell me, matter of factly btw, that the 4 door has better off road capabilities than any other four wheel vehicle on the market. J told him there are some places the four door will have a rough time going because of the width and wheelbase. Was told there are bypasses. Well yes there are, but who wants to go a bypass if they can definitely make it? And didn't he just say his 4 door can do more than a TJ? This debate went on for at least 15 minutes of being told the 4 door is the only way to go. And lastly asked about the pentstar of having issues in the engine cylinder. Was told it was never an issue. Just thouht I'd share my excitement for the day. Will always love my TJ.

Love a cj more, but yes the TJ's are spot on. There will always be a debate, especially if you own one, yours will be on top of the heap. I ride a Victory motorcycle, best ride, hands down, and dependable with 134,000 miles on the clock. However, Harley riders think they are top dogs, even if they don't ride. As you say, to each there own. I will always love a CJ, and my Victory. Thanks for sharing.

Proud '97 TJ and '07 KJ Owner.

Everyone is going to defend what they own. Pointless to even try to start a debate to get them to see a different light/perspective.

Surprisingly I wasn't planning on "debating with him". The reason it started was because I asked about how the 4 door JK did on the highway and it went into me talking about my jeep for a little bit before he went off on "his is better because its a four door" debate . I just pointed out the pros and eve the cons of the TJ from what I've experienced using only my jeep lol.

A friend who lives near me lent me his 4 door 09 JK to try out before I went to buying my TJ. I felt they were both completely different in ride styles. BUT I would never go as far as to say mine is better then his. But when I did pick up my TJ and showed it to him, he was envious of what I picked up and the fact that it was standard as well. (Between you and me... I wasnt envious of his JK hehehe but like I said he was nice of him to let me try it to get a feel for jeeps)

Have both sitting in the driveway. If I had to choose one it would be the JK. It has gobs more power and is much more comfortable to drive. When it comes to wheeling offroad I dont find it any less capable than the TJ. The big difference is one of them has a payment and the other one is paid for.

Come on face it when it comes to Wranglers (No 4 Doors), if you like 4-doors buy a caravan.

Everyone needs to buy what suits their needs/wants at the time, it's all good. I traded in my 2000 Ford Excursion for my 2001 Wrangler, each suited my needs at the time. I even had a couple of minivans when the kids were little!

I have both, they each have their strong points. We'll be trading the JK Sport for an Unlimited within a year. 4 doors make it a lot more versatile.

We bought a two door, manual JK last year. Figured that is the way a jeep should be. But, we also bought it using the excuse it is a good back up vehicle for the wife when her car is in the shop. Well, her car has been out of commission for three weeks(decided it's not worth fixing again, so buying a replacement). The two door, stick shift JK is a horrible back up vehicle for her needs. It's going to be replaced with a new four door auto rubicon. If that wasn't an option, the jeep would be replaced with something else. I'm glad I've got the choice.

I don't necessarily mind the 4 door. They look better with some sort of a lift on it IMO, and I have friends who drive a JK. Test drove a 4 door on the highway and indeed they ride smoother even with the freedom top half removed or kept on. And yes they have the same off road capabilities as any other jeep. Just prefer my TJ. Though I know my fiance will be getting a JK at some point for both a recovery vehicle and to use for the kids if need be. But that's much further down the road.

Matter of opinion. I prefer keeping it simple/stock. Less problems overall, more money for routine repairs when needed. Sure I'd love to have a rig like you posted but im practical.

Your arguments in this thread make little sense. You obviously haven't experienced some of the factory features that are very much not simple, extremely annoying and tough to deal with. I've spent years improving, simplifying, and increasing reliability on the factory TJ and I'm not done yet.

As for 4 door JK's and soccer moms, you need to hit the trail more. A well built 4 door JK will romp all over your TJ.

Why is a 4 door for soccer mom's? When I put my wife and two teenage boys in the TJ for a day-long trail ride, the 4 door starts to look mighty appealing. And no, nobody here plays soccer.

I have a TJ and a JK and like many on here. IMO no one Jeep does everything the best..JK is much better on the highway. But if you want to compare off road...it will depend on the type of terrain and wheeling. There are palces that a JK just won't fit doesn't matter how capable it is how big or little of a lift...sometimes in the woods it won't fit..and sometimes neither will the TJ!! than you need a side by side Razor or something like that.

Extreme point but my point is they each have their place IMO...but if I had to pick one vehicle only to drive till the end of time...yeah it would be my 9year old TJ

My wife wants a 4 door jeep.. But when I remind her that her 4 door Taureg does 140mph, has air ride suspension, heated leather seats, and doesn't sound like a outhouse in a windstorm... she changes her tune.

For a $80k rig it better!!!!

Give me that much to build a LJ (or TJ), it will put that thing to shame, I won't be afraid to dent it, and I will be able to give you money back .

I have a TJ but I don't think there is anything wrong with the 4door JKs. You can put a lift and tires on it and take the whole family and a dog with supplies on a wheeling/camping trip. It's kinda hard to do that with a TJ with the back seat in for the kids... I know plenty of people who wheel their 4 doors and their 2 doors. Not all jk owner use them for mall crawling... I see just as many stock tjs driving down the street and parked in mall parking lots that have never touched a dirt road as I have for JKs. If I had the money to spend I would buy a 4door in a heart beat even though I love my tj
