half doors

The first jeep I drove had half doors, which I was sure I wanted. But, after a few miles, I realized I couldn't hardly see because the cloth area on the upper doors (aw hell, I can barely see around the mirrors), so I went with full doors. Had I realized I'd have the top off almost a hundred percent of the time, I'd have gone with the half doors.

Anybody have any opinions on the aftermarket half doors? Ones you would suggest, ones you would stay away from?

(my youngest son is terrified of the doors being off, otherwise I'd just bag doors all together)

Don't know the answer, but once you get those half doors, you'll never want those big monstrosities again. The visibilty is fine too. I had never noticed a difference in visibilty between halves and fulls.

Half doors are cool, for doors that is...

You must never have the tops in or you're taller than me.

I bought some on ebay this past spring at a decent price, cloth upper/lowers. I believe they are Best Top. I really like 'em, but they are not a tight fit at the top.

Sell your full doors. Usually most people will spend 1200-1500 if they are a color match. You can even find people to trade you for half doors plus some cash. You might get lucky and everything will be an exact match. I've seen weird things happen with jeeps. I posted up a set of full doors on ebay for 1300 bucks. Sold them within an hour to a local guy and delivered them an hour after he paid.

Thanks guys. I think Santa can swing cloth half doors so I'm going to give them a try. If I hate them I'm only out a couple hundred bucks (santa's a cheap sob).

I can't sell my full doors, when the rains come here in SoCal, they're bad, and it's my daily driver. I'm not sure how anyone can drive anything else honestly.

I've been looking at the Bestop 2-peice doors for a while now. I have never heard anyone complain about them.

I was just going to buy the bottom doors and keep my full doors. Like I said, I have problems seeing around the mirrors so all that extra fabric makes it difficult for me. I need seat risers, but I'm not real sure about those, if they're dangerous or what.

Ah ok my bad, work and my looming vacation has warped my perception of reality. I have a similar problem , well not quite. I'm 6'1" and 235 lbs so I have to scrunch down when at trafic lights to see the lights. I end up looking like an ogre with a muscle control problem half the time when I do it. Lowering the seat is one of my options so I wouldn't think raising it would be much different as far as safety. The cloth half doors are thin but they usually are made of the same material as the top so that would be a great choice.

Hahaha. You got a foot on me. I'm afraid if I raise the seat, my feet won't touch the floor (they barely do anyway). I have to sit a little forward anyways. I don't want to look like I'm leaning on the steering wheel all the time

(vacation fog is understandable)

Now I'm not an engineer but I have fabricated a few things with a torch and a welder in the past. I would think you could raise the seat with risers and then drill new mounting holes or design a offset mounting bracket that would do both so the seat could be slid closer and bee taller. Essentially up 1 inch and forward 1 inch. I would have to sit down and do the math but this should be feasable,

Or, I could sit on a phonebook and use electrical tape to attach blocks of 2X4s to my sneakers.

tiny, just to add to the half doors topic. I was drueling over the quadratec.com catalog and saw the bestop fabric half doors for 164.00 for the set and a set of molded half doors about 550.00. Just thought I would mention it. You could also get a set of the adjustable after market mirrors there that attach to the windshield and pretty much adjust to wherever you need them.

Yeah, I was looking at the cloth halfs, they look pretty good. My littlest just can't stand when the doors are off, so I have to have something. I think the price is right for a temporary fix.

I attached mirrors to my windshield first thing so the doors could come off and man do I hate the ones I chose. Not to mention removing torx heads are like going to hell and back. Took me three days to take one out.... ok, I drilled it out.

I'm still trying to remedy my choice. I assume everyone does that though. Buyer's remorse at some point.

thanks this has been the absolute best jeep board I've been to.

I get over buyers remorse before i order things for the jeep. I just pout for a day or 2 then order it. You know get it out of my system before I do it.

I had the opposite problems on my half doors. After I installed my lift and tires. I went to a offroad event for charity. They had this pretty nasty mudbog course there. When I went through the deep mud holes I couldn't see out my side windows due to they mud covering. Made me come in second place by 3 seconds, cause I lost sight of which way the course went comming off a hill and into a pit (all i could see was my brother jumping out of the way he thought i wasn't going to stop) . After that I went and bought the half sliding glass uppers.

I want half doors but with a hard top. I like my full doors but I like the bigger opening on the half doors.

For those of us who are vertically challenged you can get a really nice set of seat risers from this guy http://www.buchananworks.com/html/jeep_parts.html. I know that you could do something cheap like hockey pucks as some will suggest but I like to support the entrepeneur and i don't have access to a machine shop to do it right myself. You can buy direct from this guy or go to Northridge 4X4, they sell them there also.

Vertically challenged? I like it. I thought I was genetically jipped. Your term sounds so much better.

May be this website will help

Jeep Doors for Wrangler TJ '97 - '06 | Bulldawg Mfg

I currently have half doors and I am buying the hard window top to go with half door. I think this is better then full doors. 1. Easy to take the door off and cruze in the jeep. 2. Security is good and someone with a knife can't break hard door top. 3. Most people will not have this set up. Good luck...
