Ive been looking at the chicago electrics 9000 lb. winch for a long time and now i think its time to get one. Harbor frieghts sells them for about 350, but last fathers day they were on sale for 250 with mounting plate and fairlead. Im sure there will be a sale for christmas and im asking if anyone has any knowlegde of this product . and also, i have a front smittybuiltt bumper. im pretty sure i can fit the winch and mounting plate behind it, but the question is , will it look wierd. because ive never seen a winch with those style bumpers. Plus, i really dont want to change the chrome theme of my jeep by getting a black winch bumper.
A friend of mine just bought the same winch you're looking at. I won't be able to tell you anything about it for a while since he is going to Iraq for the next 8 months. I guess you have to remember that you get what you pay for. On the other hand, is it really worth putting a grand into something (for a Warn) that you may only use once in a while?
Location: Under the hood of the jeep from hell (not mine)
My dad has the same winch on a '56 m38a1 he built. It pulls hard (winched an '04 dodge 3/4 4x4 out of a mudhole), but he had to chain to a nearby tree first. It's been a stellar product for his needs. But you may have to modify the mounting plate substantially to fit it behind your chrome bumper, so be advised.
If there's a will, usually there's a way, but then you get to that bolt that you still can't get to with two extensions, two universal sockets, and a contorsionist midget trying to help you.
1999 XJ Four door, mostly stock for now, but I am in the process of building a custom plate bumper.
fabricating the mounting plate wont be a problem. If its way off or just doest fit. Ill just make one. and by the way. yes it is worth it to spend alot of money on a winch that im only gonna use every once and a while. Makes the jeep look badass and whendo need it, im gonna be thankful that i have it. I dont want to leave my jeep in the middle of the woods stuck over night again.
well he said "yes it is worth it to spend a lot of money on a winch"...actually he hasn't paid for anything on it except he gives me gas money every once in a while...i know your prolly just jokin tho...or are you bein serious this time
I think what he is saying is that it it worth the money to buy the Harbor Freight winch. If I were going to spend the kind of money they want for the big warn winches, I'd just buy a old beater 4X4 and have a buddy trail me.
oooh my bad...i think that winch would be worth a try...as long as you can get it mounted then it should be fine...line speed may be slower or other little things like that but maybe it wouldn't be bad for the money...give it a try
