Hard to find parts sometimes

I have a 2000 tj with the 4.0. I recently fixed my rear main seal and discovered that its hard to find the correct parts. The rear main itself kept coming with the little wings but the bearing cap wouldn't fit that. After going to autozone advance and napa, I eventually went to jeep and paid triple for the right one. The guy there told me some nonsense about it being a mid year model.....? Does this make sense to anyone? It came off the line on 9/99 from the door sticker.

Also it does have the 3 cats on it, but finding the correct o2 sensors were problematic as well. I'm just wondering if anyone had this, and if there's any way to avoid the wild goose chase.

And it is the original motor and everything else as far as I know. I bought it off a friend that was the original owner.

No good way to avoid the "goose chase" as it is a change-over year as well as everything else! Typically, these are the vehicles that you have to triple check part numbers on, to ensure you get the right parts out of the box.

If its any consolation, you aren't the only forum member that's run into this. It happens with brake rotors and emissions parts all the time! I noticed my mid-year junk at the catalytic converter when doing exhaust repairs.
