Hard Top Help

Hey guys.. Finally going to take off my hardtop for the rest of the month. PO says that the top has never been taken off. It is a 2000. So 12 years of non-removal. I have been going at it for 2 hours. I keep hearing the seal breaking but nothing really is happening. Is it supposed to be this hard?! Oh and im only 17 and I have another friend with me. But im not weak! Please helppp.. need this darn thing off!

Make sure that you have the two hooks removed over the passenger and driver side seats and also all of the bolts out.

If I were you I'd spray with some degreaser or some goo be gone. It may just be stuck on there from all the years. If our you I go and push from the inside driver seat up and see if it pops off of the front windshield. If it does it's smooth sailing from there.

Very dumb question here, but I have never taken my hard top off. When you install the hard top, do you get more wind noise in the cab than normal? Does water come in? Also do you have to buy a resealing kit everytime you want to install the hard top back on? Stupid questions, but I'm thinking about taking my top off.

I will be putting on my hardtop in a few weeks so I can let you know if there is any added wind noise. I dont think water would come in but if you have never taken the hardtop off I would probably buy some new reseals, as I will be doing soon. But then you shouldnt have to buy it every time. No worries. I had the exact same questions..

Well i change mine every season from soft-top to hard-top, and i've never resealed the side-rails down. I'm sure that if i did it wouldn't be a BAD idea, might remediate some drafts and whatnot. my hardtop has a soft non stickey weatherstrip that takes care of some of the draft, but as far as re-adhering the top to the tub itself, i doubt its necessary.
just make sure its nice and squarely mounted so that your doors close nicely and get a good seal (i have full doors, so not sure how half doors measure up).

Just remove all the bolts (6) and unclip the two front clips, also any wire connections you may have in the back.
Get one buddy, each get on a side and lift up and walk back and lower.
It's maybe 100lbs, easy for two guys.

I love it without the top! Its going to rain here Thursday and i got a bikini top from the PO. But it doesnt fit..-.- the front part keeps coming out of the place holder thing on top of my windshield. So im looking into buying an extended top.. But if anyone had this problem and figured it out let me know!

I couldn't tell from looking at your pics but do you have a windshield channel for your bikini top to clip into? It would go on top of the windshield so the bikini top has something to clip into... Just a thought let us know...

Hmm, maybe I'm stronger than I thought? I was just guessing after doing it the other day when I wrote that.
I don't know the actual weight, I just know it's not too bad.

When I got my jeep a year ago the top had not been off in a long time. It was also quite stuck. I take it off and on often throughout the summer (with a garage hoist, only takes me 10 minutes to pop the top off). Never seal it (didn't know such a thing existed) and water never gets in and there is no extra noise.

As for the header problem, it just gets easier the more you do it. Got my bikini new and it was a bear to get the front to stay put. I always secure the velcro sides then put the front in the header and pull everything tight. That'll keep it from popping out on me.
