Hard top hoist

Considering getting a hoist for my hard top. Anyone got an opinion on the subject? Any suggestions on brand/type? Is one worth the money? Are they hard to install? Thanks everyone.

They are by far worth the money. Check out quadratec for the different types. I got the hand crank hoist ( came with a basic come-along ratchet hoist) that I use constantly during the spring summer and into the fall. The price ranges vary. If you have a couple of bills to spare, get one.

Depending in what kind you get, you may want to get a chain with a d-ring to wrap around the ceiling joist. The eyelet lag bolt that came with the setup was weak and bent easily then started to crack. Ran to home depot to grab 4' of chain and a 1500lb d-ring ( smallest they had for like 8$ ) and made my center point that way for the pulley.

Well worth the investment.

Still too much rain here in Seattle area, but I was going to try something like this in a few months as a DIY option: check out post #24

I have been thinking about doing the same for my daughter. It just might save me a hardtop.

I have the plain Jane Lang manual hoist. It's been working great for three years.
I back it up with some ratchet straps to keep it more secure, and for a little extra piece of mind while working underneath it. (excuse the messy garage!) I have not even put the hard top on this winter. It's been hanging there since last spring.
