Hard Top Hoist

Looking to build a Hoist for my hard top so I'm not calling my buddies all the time for help. Has anyone built there own? If so what did you use? If you have pics that would be great.

I also went the cheap but effective route. The difference between Stu's hoist and mine is I run the straps front to back. I've never had any issues with my top bowing or spreading using this method of front to back.

I was wondering about a DIY build my self and those are pretty creative. Good job! I just need a hard top now. :P

You shoud only have to take it off once. Sell it and run the soft top year round. I do and have no problems in snow and ice.

Mine is like that but it very easy
for one person to get on and off
but its not really a hoist

On the front corners I just used a chain with S hooks

on back I used the tie down straps to a 2x4 too 2 I bolts

Just pull jeep in backwards undo everything

If you have rafters just throw chain over at the front corners
Stand on jeep S hook on corner of top lift up corner
ajust legth with S hook in diff link in chain
same on other side

In back I used one eye bolt in ceiling
two straps coming down to a 2x4 w eye bolts
at end
Again standing on jeep just lift one corner
put hook under side same with other side
Pull to adj height than put 2x4 on each
side I bolt

You only lift each corner maybe 3-4 inches
very easy and cheap

I went the same route with the ratchet straps....worked great so far. Threw a 2x4 under the back end though so as not to bow the top right after the pics - recommended by many members and makes perfect sense. This setup works great - I can get the top up high enough to walk under (Im 6' 3") so its pretty well out of the way and doesnt cost me much in the way of usable garage space.

CatITguy, great looking lift, how did you get the hard top all the way against the ceiling? I did mine this weekend and still have another 2 feet till the top will hit the ceiling.

I finished mine just today.
Luckily the 2x4 rafters in my attic were in the right position so I just drilled through them and used 8 inch eyebolts. Thanks for the ideas y'all!

I had to cut the straps shorter than they came, otherwise was running out of room on the ratchet. Just cut off 6-8" at a time, obviously if you cut too much you cant exactly reattach it.

This thread is a little older, but for what it is worth I got a cheapo' 120v electric winch at harbor frieght and bent a pice of cage tube (1.75 x.120) in a 90. Hooked it to the wall with six quad conduit straps so it will pivot. Made a rope sling, hook it to the lift, remove and then swing into the corner of my garage over the top of the shelf. Think jib boom.......sorta, CHEAP jib boom. Total cost was about sixty bucks, but I had the tube laying around. Gets my top away from everything after I get it removed.
