Hard top paint

I'm repainting my hardtop, is it supposed to be flat black or gloss black?

The stock is a satin/semi gloss. Many of us have used Krylon Fusion Satin.

If it's just faded real bad, just go to lowe's and pick up some penetrol from the paint section and bring it back to life.

Krylon Fusion Black Satin will make it look new. ~3 cans will do it for a few full light coats.

From what I can see on my phone, yes. I bought mine used, it was faded real bad, I put some penetrol on it and it now looks good as new, minus some small chips in it.

I have just done the same thing on my Steel Horse roof, Autosmart Trim Ultra, looks amazing and lasts for years.
You can see it on the website (contact)

Hi Chris, just wondering how you applied the penetrol on your hard top? Brush, rag, or some other way? I plan on taking off my hard top next week and be doing abit of work to it (replacing the rotten out glass hinges) and store it till fall. First time soft top going up in its place (bought my jeep late last summer so I just left the hard top on).

I didn't want to repaint my top but this might just be the ticket for me as its just faded.

Just wash your top, let it dry and apply with a rag. After you let it set a few minutes, you can take a good terry cloth and rub it in. It last along time, I've only did my top twice in the six years I've had it. Just DON'T get it on the paint of your Jeep. Some people have used it on their flares also.

I think it does work on other color tops, you may want to try a small spot to check. A lot of people use it boats and RV's, it's like a conditoner for fiberglass. Once again, DON'T get it on the paint of your Jeep.

Thanks man, the top will be completely off the jeep so there's no worries about it landing on the paint

I'm not willing to find out. I just remember reading that warning years ago when I bought my top and was search the forums on what to use.

I've used Pentrol on body paint without issue. (The hartop is painted and you are putting it on pain) There is an area that had been poorly painted by the owner that I just could not get buffed out and was faded. Pentrol prought the color back.
