Hard Top Repair and Painting

I found a good deal on a hard top for my LJ and I have road trip (TX to CO) coming up so would like to have it for that. It has a small crack which appears to be cosmetic only on one of the rear corners. It seems like some body filler or another similar material would easily cover it cosmetically, and seeing as the top is gray and I think it would look better black I could take the opportunity to paint it all... but I'd kind of like to keep it the gray color for originality sake. Especially because I may just sell it again after my trip and being repainted would probably lower the value.

Are there color matched paints for the hard tops out there?

And what works best to repair cracks?

Jeep tops need to be repaired with SMC fiberglass resin. It is the same stuff they use on vette's. You can use cloth, or use some that has fibers in it. I went to an automotive paint supply store to get my stuff.

As far as painting it. Do what ever you like to it. Don't worry about 'original'. There is probably a bigger market for a black top than a gray top. A quality paint job will be the most important factor.
