Hard Top Storage

Any clever ideas to store the hard top without spending $200 on a storage cart-thing? I have it on some floor mats in my apartment garage so it'd be nice to set it up so I can park inside.

the carts are great, i found mine off ebay someone used for 1 year. i paid like $75 shipped. you could make one, but they're great, take up less than half the space as when its flat, and you can roll it out of the way. or rig up someting on the ceiling to hold it.

I Hung Mine From The Rafters

I took a couple of pieces of angle iron 24" long and drilled a hole in the center and then mounted them to the rafters in my garage. I went to Lowes and bought a couple of rachet pullies & some rope. It comes off pretty easy and goes back on the same. Cost $50.00.

Rickster mentioned the method I was thinking of.....except for the angle iron......

I would get 4 heavy-duty closed-loop eye bolts and space them equally around the rafters, and get some sturdy nylon rope and sling the thing up there....

I just sling 4 motorcycle tie downs over the rafters, and rachet it off. Easy off, easy on. I can remove by myself without any issues.

He mentioned apartment, I'd drive around on a sat afternoon and look for someone who is throwing away a swing set. Take the A' ends, the cross bar and cut to fit in your garage for height and make it so you have a foot or so on each side by shortening the top cross bar. You could even put casters on it to roll it around on if you wanted. A $5 comealong or one of those winches they use on boat trailers some nylon flat rope and an eyebolt, 1" thick 5ft long, 4" wide piece of oak. You just need to find the balance point.
Can be used for other stuff too like hanging stuff for painting too.

Thumbs up

Thanks for all your responses. I'll check Ebay. I thought about leaning it against the wall but I think I'd rather get something to set it up on.

I like the ideas for building something, but I'd say I'm really mechanically challenged

thanks again for all the advice!
