Harder to start when warm

Hello,
I have a 99 Jeep Wrangler 4 cylinder with 97K miles. After recently replacing the starter, my Jeep is harder to start when the engine is already warm. When the engine is cold, it starts up easily. For example, if I'm driving around and stop for 5 minutes, the Jeep will be harder to start than if the engine was cold. Any thoughts on what would cause that? Thanks.

Make sure its the right starter? Did you have a mechanic install?

It was installed by a mechanic. The starter seems quite strong now, but the engine doesn't start up quite as quickly as before.

If the new starter is not working as good as the last starter I would call the mechanic and let him know, verify the type of starter. Thats were I would start. Im new the Jeeps I'm pretty sure somebody on here knows more about starters than me.

I was going to say check battery, spark plugs, alternator until you said it starts worse than last starter...

by hard to start do you mean the motor turns over slower like the starter is weak when hot or do you mean the motor still turns over fast with the starter but does not want to start.

if the second part sounds right it might be your fuel pump getting weak when it heats up.

if the first part sounds right take it back to the shop it would be a bad starter it happens more then you would think that a NEW starter going bad quick.

@Scott--the starter is very strong, but the engine doesn't want to start when it is already hot. In fact, it takes a second or two longer to start when the engine is cold and probably 3 or 4 seconds longer when it is hot.

Before the recent issues began with the starter, it would start up right away every time regardless if it was hot or cold.

Thanks for the Fuel Pump suggestion. Is there any way for mechanic to examine the fuel pump to determine if that is indeed the issue or is it more of a best guess to replace the pump to see if that resolves the issue?

try turning on the key and waiting a few seconds before starting to let your fuel pump pressure up. If it starts well then it a fuel pressure issue.

You also could try cleaning throttlebody with spray cleaner. coud be your throttlebody is gummed up and not getting correct air fuel mixture.
