Hardtop window

I have found out recently that my hardtop rear window will not stay closed all of the time. It will stay closed on the freeway for the most part, but still bounces open while wheelin. I am lucky I have the spare tire there, or else I would be getting a new window by now. Could this possibily just be the rear window seal? I wanted to see if anyone else had this problem before I went and got a seal.

Thanks,

Rubicon J.

I solved a problem like this with a cheap set of small magnets believe it or not!

you could try to replace the bottom seal where the taigate holds it into place.

Sorry to bump this but im having the same issue only my rear window is opening with any airflow. Any other ideas to keep it down? Maybe some sort of straps?

You are closing the window first, then the tail gate, right?

Get a strip of vhb foam tape and attach it to the bottom of the window. This will seal it up pretty air tight and keep it from bouncing.

Yes, the pressure from the tailgate keeps the window closed.

Alright I will try that. I just didn't know if it was a common problem. The window seal strip is a bit bent up on the corners but I don't think that's causing it

Loosen the glass hinge bolts. There is a little bit of adjustability. Pull the glass down as dfar as it will go.

Mine does that to, it comes open just a little from the pressure inside the jeep. I have tried adjusting the two metal flanges on the tail gate but all it did was cause it to rattle. Adjusted back to stop the rattle and put a peace of gray foam between the third tail light and the window. Sounds lame but it works, just enough pressure to hold the window closed without danger of breaking the glass.

I removed my 3rd tail light because the wiper was hitting it and stopping. Its not required in Washington. Also I didn't like how it looks. I'm thinking it was hitting though because the window is not flush with the tailgate.

i must be stupid or something, cause i'm just not getting it. close the window, then close the tailgait-there is probably a 1/2" or better of overlap so i'm not seeing how the window is possibly opening unless the tailgait opens-on mine it has to be pretty much fully open befor the glass will clear it. only 3 things i see could cause this-closing tailgait 1st then the glass, back window that far out of adjustment(if there really is any and it can go that far out), wrong glass(too short and not very likely)

No man I feel ya. I don't get it either. Close the glass, slam the tailgate, while driving, bumps or cabin pressure pushes the glass over the door and it rattles from bouncing between the tire and door. Crazy stuff. It just started the last few days

Make sure the glass is not moving around-I have heard of some where the bolts holding it to the hinges were loose and allowing it to move around.

Alright guys I fixed it for now. I loosened up the bolts a bit and pulled the glass down a bit. It only moved maybe 1MM. Then I put a few strips of electrical tape on the top of the tailgate to hold the window back better. We will see if it holds. Thanks for the help guys.
