Harmonic Balancer

just got back from the dealership, turns out my harmonic balancer needs to be replaced, they told me it would cost me $650 bucks total for them to take care of it. I can probably do it myself if its just unbolt replace and bolt, or is it something I want a pro to fix? what do you guys think?

Your going to need a 3 bolt puller and a balancer installer to do the job.
its not a big deal. might want to put a new seal in wile you got it off too

That's right, just one bolt! How hard can it be?

Some parts stores will lend you a puller and an installer. Using an installer is way smarter than using a bolt in the crankshaft.

For someone with experience and the right tools, it's a 30-minute job. $650 is beyond absurd.

Do it yourself and save that case. On the 2.5l it's very easy, especially since you have so much more room to work in there with the short engine. It's a fairly simple job; get the puller and go for it.

Take belt off or loosen and get it out of the way , remove crank bolt AND washer l, find correct size puller bolts, insert them through the pullers bolt holes and thread them down relatively evenly.. make sure to use the pointed end for the puller tool so it will not go into the threaded part of the crank.. tighten puller bolt until balancer comes off.. install new balancer by placing it up against the crank snout and properly key it to go onto the crank and put the washer and bolt back in and tighten, reinstall belt, drink a beer.

When you realize the bolt is too short for that plan to work, go get the installer tool that you shoud have gotten in the first place.

Might want an impact to spin the bolt out too.
