Has anyone else had this problem?

I've been researching this for a while now, and everything is pointing me in the direction of my intake. But I would like someones personal experience before I go buying a new intake....

Here is my problem..
I have an 01 4.0 Inline 6, I bought the jeep with an aftermarket intake already installed on it. The brand is Air F/X, seems kind of cheap to me. Anyway, when my engine gets at normal running temp, I'll start to get a loud whistle only at idle. It sounds like a teapot. It seems the colder it is the longer it will last, but everytime I pull over to take a look, it dissipates by the time i have the hood open. It eventually will stop after about 10 mins of driving or so.
The engine runs fine, it doesn't stumble, and its not throwing any codes up. So since I have not been able to locate the noise, I dont want to go out and buy a new intake, then find out that wasnt even the problem.

Is there a throttle body spacer installed? They are notorious for whistling. If there is one, you can remove it without any loss of performance as they don't help in the least with the type of throttle body the 4.0L uses.

That is how my power steering pump started out. Then it got loud enough to hear every time I accelerated as well. Probably got a bearing going out

Yeah that would be cool, but it sounds nothing remotely close to a super charger, and I cant look to cool when it only does it at idle lol

That it only whistles at idle makes me think it's a simple vacuum leak. There is more vacuum made at idle than there is at higher engine rpms which would explain the whistle going away while you accelerate.

Thats what I was thinking as well, but if it were a vacuum problem, wouldn't my idle speed be all over the place?

Now that you bring up the obvious problem a vacuum leak would also cause, you're probably right that it isn't a vacuum leak afterall.

Remove the intake tube. Bet it still does it. The stock aircleaner/ducting is a good silencer - it did it, but wasn't so obvious.

Many of the aftermarket filter/snouts whistle. It stops once the IAC closes a little.

I'm using a Rockette snout with a K&N, it does it too.
