Has anyone ever gone down in size? From 33s to say, 31s. From 4 inch lift to a 2? Or even back to stock size?

Maybe you went with a cheaper 4 lift, don't have the funds to replace it, so you go with a 2 inch quality lift.

Just curious.

I wanted some power back, so I went from 33's on 3.07 gears to 31's on 4.11 gears. Kept the 2.5" lift the same.

Why not just regear for the 33s?

I started off modestly with 31s and 2in lift. Happy with the look and feel.

I have a 3 speed auto, so I can easily go back to 33's. But right now I am headed to a street rod look. Adding a stroker and Hoosier 31x16.50 pro street tires. I will keep a set of mud tires for occasional off-roading.

I went from 4 inch lift to no lift then back to 2 inch lift. I have rims w tires from 31's-33's and all are stacked in my garage, taking up space. I downsized due to my other half being so short. I then tried to sneak a 2 inch lift in but she knew right away. If you work on your own car, down sizing or going larger is easy, u just have to get a little dirty.
If your gearing is an issue, swap out a new rear end. That's takes about two hours w an impact wrench, maybe quicker... You can find good deals on differentials on craigslist.
I run 4.11 gears and have not had any gear issues w running larger tires. My jeep does run at much higher rpms when running 33's. Im currently running 32's w 2 inch lift w 4.11

Went from 35's to 33's. 35's were to big for everyday driving and my power is better on medium size hills,no downshifts.

What about the front? They do have to be the same.
