Having electrical Issues please offer some suggestions

2004 Jeep Wrangler sport 4.0

A week or so ago, the oil pressure started dropping out intermittenly at idle. Not slowly dropping but jumping up and down. I changed the oil pressure sending unit and all was back to normal so I thought. Then on the way to work today the OP was fine but I heard a clicking sound from behind the glove box. Turns out the AC compressor is cycling on and off.

Then when I went to leave work, the oil pressure gauge (stock Electronic type) never left 0 and check gauge light followed by warning sound came on immediately. I shut off the engine did some checking. I removed the plug to the sending unit and jumped that wire to ground and found the gauge still did not move telling me something from there to the gauge is messed up. To be safe I fired up the engine looked in valve cover through oil fill cap and I see oil pumping so I know I have pressure. Drove it a short distance and the oil pressure gauge returned to normal. Not sure whats going on.

If the two problems are related, I'd be looking for a bad engine, or body ground.

I think the oil pressure sending unit sends a signal to the PCM and then the PCM sends a voltage to the gauge. It sounds like you losing the signal from one or the other.

If you have the defroster on the AC compressor is running and I believe the compressor will cycle. Maybe you never noticed it before. As said on many threads get a mechanical oil pressure guage and see what your oil pressure really is.

I plan on putting in a mechanical gauge as well but then what to do about the check gauge light that is always on?

Put a tee in so you have both. If the mechanical gauge says you don't actually have a oil pressure problem look for a junk yard salvage OEM gauge clusteror or I believe you can short the sender unit to ground and this will shunt the check gauge light for the purpose of oil pressure.
