Head gasket replacement, new bolts too? 2.5

I'm removing the cilinder head of my 2.5. And the studs (that hold the head with a nut) on the manifold side came out of the cilinderbolck. The nuts are very corroded and like welded to the studs.

Can I reuse the studs asif they were bolts? Or do I have to get new studs+nuts?

My Haynes manual doesn't say anything about it...

You want new bolts for them anytime the head is removed. They are stretch bolts and torquing them down stretches them out. Always replace them. They were 22.00 from my local NAPA at my price.

Also, they are bolts, not studs. The nut is made on the bolts.

Just had my 97 se 2.5 cylinder head changed out. Mechanic had told me that one of my head gaskets had been
Blown. Well it ended up being a small crack in my cylinder head on the one. This came to my knowledge after getting a second opinion. Definitely replace the bolts. They will be very hard to take out. Have you bought your replacement cylinder head yet?

I'll have the head checked/planed by a specialist and he can probably also get me a set of bolts.

Make sure he magnfluxes the head to check for cracks. I have had two 2.5 heads crack on me. Gkbassn4 just had to replace his also. I would tell you a good place to get one, but seeing as how you are in Spain, shipping would probably kill you.

Thanks for the heads up. Shipping from the USA isn't all that bad with USPS..

Let's see if I need one.

Head is off, gasket blown between 2 and 3. Cannot see any cracks in the head (on the outside).

Same place mine was blown. Both of mine had obvious cracks though. Maybe you will get lucky!

Ok, it's all fixed, including a new waterpump, radiator, hoses, t-stat,some other stuff.

Here's a pic of a headless 2.5

Here's a better pic of the head

New gasket

And the head back in place

Keep the rockers and pushrods in a box like this, then you will place them back where they came from.

Bolt tightening sequence.

Use some RTV on bolt number 8, the thread in the cylinderblock is connected to a cooling channel. Also has a different torque!

Torque settings:

All bolts except N#8 : 110 Ft lbs. N#8 100 Ft lbs. Rocker arm bolts: 19 Ft lbs. Exhaust and intake manifold; 23 Ft Lbs.
