Heater Core and coolant smell?

I have plenty of heat in my 98 TJ but there is a slight smell of coolant. I first noticed some extra condensation on the inside of the windows on cold days. I had the core checked and it seems to be OK but there is an obvious smell so some coolant is getting in. A local shop wants $750 with labor to replace. Any thoughts on this?? Thanks

Yep that sounds exactly like your heater core has sprung a leak. That's not an easy repair, the entire dash has to come out to get to the heater core, so the $750 price doesn't really surprise me.

When they replace it be sure they clean all the "Factory Coating" off. When they did mine, they forgot and it stunk for a week. Really sucked!

You might consider pumping some stop-leak through the heater core only. Not much to loose if it doesn't work.

Thanks for the advice. I had the heater core replaced. It ran around $650 because I do not have air. No more fogged windows
