Hella E-Code headlight Question

I am about to get some headlights to replace the sealed beam OEM lights on my TJ. Hella E-code lights look like they may be what I am after. I noticed on several websites that they are not DOT approved. Does that mean that they are not street legal? I plan to do most of my driving on the pavement, as this is my daily driver. I want to get the brightest light that I can legally run without the glare being too harsh for oncoming traffic. I am willing to pay a little more for performance, but my pockets are not deep enough to get those real high dollar options.

They sell DOT approved and NON-DOT approved ones aka Euro beam. You can buy either and be ok there is no way you can tell if the headlight isn't DOT approved unless your state has car checks and they actually look at that stuff.
I have the Euro beam Hella E codes and they are great. They have a nice cutoff and no glare plus I have HIDs in them too.

My state does have annual inspections and I'm sure that non-dot headlamps would get you thrown out. So I got the Hella vision plus which has an H2 bulb which is dot approved. It's not very fancy, about the same as everyone else but a big improvement over the oem. A good buy for $39.

Yeah I don't know where the OP lives but if you do have inspections than just get the DOT approved Hellas and you'll be good.

Hey thanks for the input folks. I found the ones on Amazon.com that are DOT approved. I don't have inspections here in Alabama, but I wanted to be legal anyhow, just in case.

I learned that 5o state dot approved doesn't always mean that, not my jeep but on my truck I had L e d. Tail lights they were tinted and way brighter than the stock ones , but come inspection time they failed them because they were tinted ,I showed him the dot approved stamp on the lights he said it didn't matter because of the tint ,
I called the manufacture they said they were 50 state legal. Went home out the stock ones in so I could pass .

I believe that the Hella Vision Plus is the DOT approved housing . . . about as close as you can get to the E-Code and be DOT approved.
