Hello Everyone, Could use some opinions on what do to with the jeep.

Hello all...

ok.. i have a 97 sport.. stock.. gambler rims with 31's now.. 4.0, 3.07 gears d30 d35..

so, I need to get in the air, I have a set of 33x12.50's BFG mt's goign to be running on the gambler rims.. since they have 5.25 backspacing i am going to get some 1.5" wheel spacers which will be like 3.75... unless locally i find a cheap set of steel wheels..

I am pretty much broke and will have to do things slowly and as time allows. my jeep is my DD.. but sees off roading a few weekends a month. . mostly trails, mud, some rocks.. nothing major..

33's are about all i plan on running for a long while ( i know this will change after i get them on. )

Thinking of getting some 3.5" or 4.5" springs, I have access to a lot of fab tools and a bunch of cut off steel. So i was thinking of making a set of fully adjustable control arms with JJ's, but if i am going through the hassel of building all new control arms why not do a little more and make some long arms so i dont have to worry about upgrading in the future is i want anything more.. and i will get a MUCH better ride on the road.. I know i will someday upgrade the rear axle to a 8.8 sometime with like 4.10's so a rear long arm with truss and triangulated rear would not be worth it right now on the stock d35.. so i was thinking along the lines of the clayton long arm lift to mimic the build after.

what would you recommend? problem with this idea i see is cash flow.. you are talking new front and rear diff's springs shocks, track bars, all the links to build the long arm which is like 500+ for just the JJ's and bushings. I have a XJ front shaft and looking for a SYE now.. would it be worth just spending money on a decent SA lift for a few years then saving for a LA later? I should with in the next few months have around $1000 to play with.. I see RC is coming out with a sweet new SA lift in Jan.. for aroound 1100...but for 1100 i feel i should be able to build most of a LA lift...

I did find a set of 4.5" Nth degree springs for $150 i was thinking of getting and then some DT3000 shocks.. to start the lift. i would need a cheap way of adjusting the rear uppers for the time being untill i get the rear end and lift done... but at least i could get in the air and still keep driving even if i only had stock control arms for a few months...

thanks for anythoughts will try and answer any else you are wondering.. hopeing to cover it all well..

I ran 33s with 3.07 gears for a little while, it sucks. Dont know if you have a stick or an auto so it may be tolerable, but with a stick it felt like I swapped the 4L for a geo motor. As for the LA dilema, if you have another vehicle go for it and take your time so its done right. Im thinking of doing the same thing shortly, because the price of a LA upgrade is just nuts. Good luck.

ya dont wanna buy a long arm kit.. yikes.. i can make it way cheaper and there have been quite a few people who have already as well.. ya I plan on upgrading to 4.10's for sure.. I know it will be rough with the 3.07's.. as soon as I can find a 8.8 to upgrade to with 4.10s already i will.. no point in getting 4.10s for the D35...

tried to edit original post.. i have the 5 speed

well i guess the more i look at this and think.. i was planning on maybe just making some short arms.. but i would still have to buy all the johnny joints and such which would be the expensive part so i might as well do a long arm...lol... so i am on the search for a 8.8 4.10 and a HPd30 4.10 then swap those in.. then do the long arm... should be a nice riding jeep as well

you could get a set of 2" lift springs and some new shocks for only a few hundred bucks. then you'll be able to fit 32's no prob.
