Hello! Time to get feedback on my 1997 TJ

Hello everyone,

I've been lurking for a while but this is my first post. Some really good threads and posts throughout these forums, definitely helped me in my search for my Jeep.

I eventually found a 1997 2.5L with 165k on the clock. Came with a 3" skyjacker suspension (personally seems like 2-2.5 but what do I know) but no other modifications. Purchased for $4000 from a private seller of CL.

Since I bought it over the summer I have done a bunch of tinkering, using this site as a guide:

Bed lined tub, fender flares, headlight bezels and door hinges
Replaced OEM soft top with new Rampage Frameless
Painted the interior a black & silver two tone scheme (no good pics yet)
Replaced dash lights with blue LEDs
Replaced factory radio and speakers with a complete Pioneer system
Did a custom gutter guard front grille w/ grille inserts
Removed PO's cheap seat covers in favor of ones from Qtec

And I've done all your routine fluid changes and maintenance.

Just made my biggest purchase so far, a new set of 33x12.5 Duratracs. Got prettty nice junkyard rims, I actually have a good relationship with my local junkyard so they know to call me when any TJs come in so I can scavenge!

So I've put a good bit of time and greenbacks into her so far, and I'm interested in any and all opinions and critiques!

Hoping these pictures upload correctly. Before and after shot and one showing off the grille and headlight bezels.

That's an interesting bumper there, brand? Very nice TJ by the way, how do you like the frameless? I'm thinking of replacing mine with one.

That's a good question. My best guess is its something personally fabbed by the PO because it's cast iron and pretty stubby. I'll try and take some better pics soon.

If you want to restore the color in your fender flares then get either a propane torch or a heat gun and hit them works good if you don't get too close

Oh and I like the frameless. Huge windows compared to OEM. Noticeably more quiet than the factory soft top, although it had a small tear which probably didn't help. It was a pain to get on the first time... But now it's staying on until Spring, sigh.

I like the "bug catcher" screen behind da grille. What did you use or get it from? It looks great! I already got fall leaves and crap finding their way in....

Yea I'm not sure I want to invest in one if I'm gonna run almost half the year without a top, how much was it if you don't mind?

I got it off amazon actually for just south of $400. You also need a header channel FYI. The only downside is the frameless isn't "easy off" in that it probably takes a good 10 minutes to break down. But you can take the windows off for safari style.

And as for the grille it's just gutter guard and zip ties!

I think you've been taking the right advice when it comes to your Jeep. That's for sure! Love the Rampage top and Duratracs. Nice job on the grille inserts. Those three things are on our to-do list for our LJ. You beat us to it. Be sure to show us some pics of your interior. We want to do a black/grey interior, so seeing your black/silver would help us out since it's similar.

Welcome to the forum! Enjoy your addiction.

Congrats on the purchase. Since you are in the mood for mods, I say trim the flares and rattlecan them with Krylon fusion black satin. Then tint the windows.

I already bed lined the flares, love the look of them, but it's hard to tell in the picture.

And I'm not sure I'll bother tinting the windows since doors are strictly for the winter, but who knows!
