HELP 1997 TJ dana 30 & 35 4:88 gears

Im looking for info on how good 4:88 gears are in dana 30 & 35's we don't have big rocks here in michigan so i just trail ride and hit the mud holes im only running 31x10.50x15 trxus mt tires with a 2.5 I know the axel's are not strong but will it hold up? and its not a every day driver. So if anybody is running this combo or know anybody is let me know thanks..

4.88 would be excessively low for only 31" tires although that ratio is ideal for 33" tires when you have the 2.5L 4-banger and manual transmission. I wouldn't spend the $$$ for regearing until you've gone up to 33" tires. The axles would be ok so long as you didn't also add any kind of a locker.

Im already using a spicer track lock.... but your saying go up one tire size with no locker....what about keeping the 31 and adding a locker?

You can't safely add a true locker to a Dana 35c axle no matter what size tire you limit it to. A Tracloc is not a locker, it is a limited slip differential which would be ok for 33" tires so long as you take it easy.
