97 4.0 5 speed 203xxx miles. 2" OTT lift, 235 75r15 tires. Driving straight everything seems ok. tires may need balanced, but still drives straight and good. When turning the steering wheel jerks like i am in 4wd. I am not, have checked linkage underneath. Also it makes a squeak while turning and jerking. goes away when straight. ball joints were replaced 4 months ago along with tie rods and end links. replaced the left front axle joint about 3 months ago. every thing seems tight. any suggestions would be appriciated. :atomic:
I would second that. It sounds like the axle U-joints went bad on you. When the tires are straight the U-joints are doing much, but when you turn the shafts are at steeper angles and a worn out joint will make itself known. Do a visual inspection but it sure sounds like they're your problem.
Let me know if you have other questions or if you'd like a quote!
XT Ryan- i appriciate the quote but i will have to go cheap and get them at advanced auto. Looking to deploy before christmas. I will upgrade them when i get home. thanks again.
No problem! Those will get you back on the road and you can always swap them out for other ones if they wear out quickly for you. Good Luck and thank you for your service!
Quick update-last night lifted up from end and spun tires with with wheels left and then right. the left front u joint was binding on the turns only. will have to get in the and replace both.
