I guys I'm new to the forum. Been looking for a jeep for a while and want to know a few things about what to look for. I live in California and wanted to know if they usually have smog issues. The one I'm looking at : https://sacramento.craigslist.org/cto/5141728551.html says it needs an 02 sensor. So I'm wondering if it probably would need more than that... And when I go to look at it, some of the specifics I should look for, and some common issues. It's a 98
Looks nice, it is very possible that it needs more than just an O2 sensor, but it could be that simple of a fix as well. Assuming its a Sacramento Jeep rust shouldn't be a huge issue, but always something to look for. I just purchased a 98 Sahara as well a little while ago, I love it, its gonna have issues as any used vehicle, look under the hood and crawl underneath, look for drips and staining on the engine block and undercarriage. Exhaust leaks are pretty common as well, just a bad design on the headers, but not a huge deal.
A plus is that it has a stock Dana 44, but I'd question why she'd sell it less than a year later if she just paid over 11k, and hasn't done any maintenance, and being a girl isn't an excuse for that.
Yeah I'm going to be very cautious and check it all out. But I'm just concerned it's going to be a catalytic converter something more. Since California is so strict with smog haha. Are the clutch's usually good in those?
Some of them had electrical issuse with dash lights and such, ignition systems were a little of a pain with hard starts. Other than that no major issues im aware of
