Help! Loud clunk when turning only when 4x4 engaged

I hear a loud clunk coming from my front end when turning in 4wd. Hear it coming around front axle. What can this be? ujoints? Only happens when turning when 4wd engaged. Rides and turns fine in 2wd. And FYI I have no sway bar and the death wobble happens every once in a while. Any tips will be appreciated! thanks!

Are you on pavement when you are doing this? If so, don't. Jeep 4WD is only meant for offroad when the tires can slip. If they bite on pavement, you can seriously mess up your TC or gears.

I first heard it offroad turning on trails which made me concerned with it. Tried on pavement one time just to better distinguish where the clunk was coming from, but have no idea.

No more trying on road, you'll just make it worse whatever it is. Maybe spider gears in front diff?

Just happens when turning sharp. Driving straight in 4wd its fine, no issues. I could be at a dead stop and turn and would hear the clunk

driving straight, both axle rotate at the same speed. When you turn, the outside axle rotates faster than the inside axle. In between your axles are the spider gears.

I'm guessing you're getting this clunk off-road on dry trails... don't run 4wd unless you're on trails where the tires are starting to slip. Clunk begone. That clunk is probably the tension releasing from the driveline due to the tires not being able to slip. Now if you're getting it in muddy situations...then you may have a problem.

I think he meant he could be at a stop, turn the wheels and then go...as opposed to making a turn while still rolling.

does it clunk while turning the wheel? (something in the steering)

or clank when driving with the wheels turned? (u-joints will make a metal snapping sound "clank clank clank clank" every time they come around to put pressure on a bad cap.)

If driving with 4wd i would turn left/right and could almost hear it coming from the driversides hub area. Tried at a dead stop and turned and heard clunk as well. Checked my ujoints and there is alot of play and obviously need replacing from looking at them. Ill just go ahead and replace them and see if it helps
