And I live in Virginia so I can't go down to Texas with my new job. Or new york. And I've been looking at jeeps in the area from Carmax and ebay, cragslist, and other websites and around here TJ's go around $14-16k with miles over 70k. This one has only 58k miles and well kept, at least from what I've seen, and I'll take it down to the Jeep dealer to get it fully checked to see if there's any hidden problems. My biggest concern is regearing and cost of that.

It goes up hill very easy and has no problem going over 50mph quickly. How much would re-gearing cost if I wanted to get 4.56 or 4.88? Currently it has 3.73 if I'm not mistaking.
Approximately $1200 to regear including parts and labor.

It has 85,000 miles, straight 6 cyl,5 sp trans. The owner was asking $15K, but a little dickering got the price down $1000.00. And having a Rubi has been wonderful.
They say a Jeep is better than a car, but a Rubi is better than a Jeep. It was registered in Texas and I live in California,so the re-registering was a bit of a drag. But I love my ride.
x2 on the rubi. Used Rubi's aren't much more than non rubi's, but u gt sooooooo much more!!!!! I absolutely love mine

But, in the end it is your dime and YOU have to be happy.

I don't see the point in spending all that money traveling all the way to New York, Texas or anywhere over a couple of hundred miles to find out when you get there the jeep is no good and you've wasted a lot of time and money getting there.

One thing I forgot to mention in my post is, in the colder climates it's a buyers market.
Wranglers for the most part are summer toys. Everyone wants a Jeep in the summer so the price goes up and the availability goes down.
I bought mine in October and noticed about a month later the prices were coming down quite a bit.

If you will list the location of the Jeep, maybe another experienced WF member in the area can meet up with you and check it out. It's good to have another set of experienced eyes.

Makes sense. Maybe that's why these LJs I'm looking for never get "cheap" in California.

3 area's that would make me walk..

1. 6" of lift on a short arm is not the best
2. Lift is not done correctly, still has at least upper front STOCK control arms, what are the rear arms? with 6" of lift you need all the control arms to be adjustable in a short arm life.
3. Front track bar is bent at mounting point.

Walk away and keep looking...its way over priced..

Yeah I'm a few hours north of Long Island and own a 2000 sport. I don't see the big rust concern that others are stating and most jeeps in the area have been subjected to road salt over the years.

Just so you know carfax doesn't mean crap. I just bought a car for my daughter clean carfax 1 owner. It was wrecked. found evidence once on the lift. Fortunately it was just the front bumper cover and nothing else but do your own inspection. If they repaired themselfs no evidence on car fax

this looks almost identical, front track bar is also bent at mounting point with a very similar looking lift, here's clearer pictures. maybe this'll help?
