Help On This Hard Top

I found a hard top for what I think is a good price, $700. Seller says it is in good condition, with rear ww wiper and defroster. He said the tint is starting to slightly peel off back glass. He said it is wrinkled in one place.

He said it came off a 2005. I know that a 2005 top should fit my 2003 Sport, but how can I tell that it really did come off a 2005. Can I tell by looking? Is this an OEM top? Are there differences for Jeep Unlimited Tops. I am not sure if his was an unlimited or not. Will it fit if it is?

Also, what should I look for when I go to inspect it? What questions should I ask by phone. It is a 3 hour drive so I don't want to make a needless trip. Here is a picture. Thanks,

looks like a regular OEM tj top to me...the unlimited would have a longer side windows. I would ask about any cracks or chips. Looks like a nice solid top from the pic. Good luck

It is a 03-06 (no vents behind side windows) 97-06 will fit you regardless what year it is from. Tint peeling means it is not factory tint. Factory tint inbeded in the glass. Someone else more familiar with tint can comment but i do not know if that can be fixed on the rear window. You run the risk of breaking up the defroster grid when removing the tint. To use the wiper/defroster you need to add the wiring if yours was a softop only model.

Thanks for the help. I was thinking about painting (or having it painted) black. Is that hard to do or expensive to have done.

I painted my top last fall with Krylon. I put about three coats on it because it was faded, and I wanted to make sure it would last.

Light scuffing of the surface and some paint thinner to make sure it's free of oils, etc.... before painting.

I agree with the other posters- that top looks fine, but I would get the tint fixed. Removing it will render the rear defogger unusuable.
One day, you will be just a memory for some people. Do your best to be the good one.
