Red face Help with a rust spot on door...

99 Wrangler Sport

There is some cracking paint on the passenger door... prob about the size of a baseball ( with a little rust mixed in ) . You can actually push on it and gives way.

I am soooo close to buying this one but I really want to get this problem fixed.

Am I looking at a big price tag on fixing something like this? Is there a quick fix? Do they sell door accessories that could cover it up? It's on the bottom of the door. I am desperate!

Any help at all would be really appreciated!

if you just want to cover it up you can get a set of rock sliders and its out of sight. But to fix it your going to have to cut out all rust and then weld in a new piece of metal and sand and prime and paint. If you did it yourself it wouldnt be too spendy if you have a welder. If you had a shop do it then yeah its going to be a chunk of change.

Talk to whoever is selling it and ask if you can take it to a couple shops to have them qoute out the cost. Then you can see if they will knock the ammount off the sale price.

is it on the door, or the rocker panel? looks like rocker from here. i'd say grind it down, cut out the rust. maybe patch in a panel and seal it up with a primer/paint, or better yet rustshield, or por. and then put some rock sliders on it to cover it. thats what i would do if its the rocker.

Ignore the picture. Thats a reflection of the mirror! Its definitely towards the bottom of the door. Do you they sell guards that go on the door or do they go just below the door?

i don't really know of a door guard, cuz the rockers are so big. you could find a used door and paint it, or just leave the doors off. or pay a body shop to replace the door skin. pretty pricey there though.

I tried to see it in the picture but I guess it's just a bad angle.

It's it's just surface rust. Sand it down and primer and repaint it.

If it has any holes even pin holes/pitted. Cut it out and have a patch welded in.

Since you say it's on the door itself .... take the door panel off and look at the inside of the panel to check better for it rusted through. If it is the bottom of the door,, it may have been holding water in it and rusted.

they go below the door, you take off that extra little fender flare that connects to your front ones and they go from fender to fender across your tub, dude I don't see the rust if its on the door just get new doors, but its a Jeep who needs doors anyway right!

Hey man, thanks a lot for those too. I just felt like this was the right one for me. You can really find doors for cheap? Everything I have heard is that it would cost me some serious cash.

Thanks again!

Congrats on the Jeep, post up some detailed pics of everything once you get it man, look on ebay for some doors man it would be alot better than trying to fix the rust, the full hard doors will be more expensive, but way worth it in my opinion

Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market

searches all junkyards in the usa and can catagorize results by price or distance

and keep in mind all the prices listed are wishful thinking on behalf of the junkyard. call and offer cash.
