Help with installing fog lights

New to the forums. I bought my first jeep (97 model) 2 years ago and recently I couldn't pass up a good deal on a 2005 so I bought it.

This is a 2005 auto 6 cyl with 32 inch tires, no lift. The previous owner had installed a body armor front bumper and some KC lights on the windshield. I added Body Armor Rockcrawler side guards and a Body Armor rear bumper and I would like to add some fog lights.

There are currently no fog lights, but it looks like the jeep is wired for fog lights because I see the wire/plug under the fender. Also, the light switch has the fog light pull out on it.

What I would like to do is use the oem fog light switch and just add lights using the existing wiring that is under the fender.

The problem is I don't know what I'm doing. Has anybody out there done this and can tell me where to start?

Thanks in advance.

i just put new ones on an 05 i got 3 months ago. if there is a plug on the end of the existing wiring then u can just call quadratec and they sell kc hilites ( apollo version i believe) with the factory adapter already on them. plug in, bolt to the holes and it should work. get some wiring luting ( sp? ) to make it pretty and ur dun. if the plug is no longer there, u can get the fogs of ur choice. 55 watt is what i think the stock fogs would be if they were there and then u just start with wires and do some simple splicing i dont remember the exact wire colors, but typically red is hot and black is ground. get some crimps from ur local auto parts store crimp like to like, cover with electrical tape or preferably some of the heat shrink tubes and that should take care of it. if u have a voltage tester u could check to make sure the wires are hot b4 doing all of this work. hope that wasnt too much info, its late

I bought a voltage tester kit several years ago. It had one of those light up alarm sticks that tells you when a wire is hot and one of those things you plug in to see if an outlet is wired correctly. Those are the only two things I've used and they don't help in this particular case. I have no clue how to use the volt meter correctly.

But when I turn on the switch the little light comes on in the dash indicating the fog lights are on.

I want to get some retangular fog lights. I was looking at the KC 26 series Fog or Hella 530.

So I guess I can just wire those into the switch. If it doesn't work,,,,that will be bad news because then I'll have to figure out why it doesn't work!
