I have a 1'' rake that I'm trying to correct. Options:
-replace my .75'' puck spacer for a 2'' spacer (making it level).
-replace my 2.5'' OME front coil (2933) for HD ZJ 2934 coils and hope it gives me an 1''.
-add a BL/MLL and jack everything up 1''.
I understand the rake is to allow for hauling gear. I have no backseat and rarely haul heavy unless camping. I dont want to reduce flex/articulation travel if possible (will add bumpstops as required). Would like to avoid the BL/MLL because of the 6 spd shifter issues.
Please weigh in. I'd like to just do the spacer but i dont know if it will do harm or dramatically reduce flex/capability.
I attached this picture of mine as a reference. It is stock but it had the 1" rake from the factory. I stacked a second spring isolator on the front and it nearly leveled it out. The stock isolator is 5/8" so two of them is 1 1/4". I feel like if you add a 2" spacer with the stock isolator you will go nose up. If you run just the spacer with no isolator your ride quality will suffer. I would either get a 1" - 1 1/4" spacer with the stock isolator or just stick another isolator in there with what you have now.
I can't believe you have that spacer in there already and still have that much rake in it.
Believe me, I am as surprised as you are. I installed the .75'' puck with the factory isolator. Maybe replace the .75'' with a 1.75'' (keeping isolator)? -If the spacer route is the way to go?
I would go with the spacer. Springs are iffy. New springs will lift it but you never know exactly how much and they will settle over time. Yes keep the isolators. I rode in a jeep without them and it would rattle the fillings out of your teeth!
Just for the record. This will give you the best ride. My point was that you know exactly how much lift you will get from a spacer. You hear all the time about people installing 2" springs and getting 3" out of them and so forth. If you're willing to take the chance though this will ride better than a spacer any day.
I have the same problem with my 2004 LJ - looks a lot like yours, except I just have 2" coil spacers and have the 1" rake. Another member said got some 2" BDS front springs and got an extra inch. Different situation but springs may be the best route.
Pardon the vertical "rake" of my photo - Ipad refuses to load photos correctly, even after rotating them
I've seen this at work (off-road shop). When you add a body lift it offsets the shifter and causes the shifter and boot to bind on the plastic inside the jeep. Some guys are OK with trimming and some aren't. It's personal preference
