Help with TJ Factory Sub

I posted this in the Communications and Electronics forum as well, but thought I may get as much help here.

I have an 04 TJ Sahara. I just swapped out the factory deck and front and sound pod speakers. My sub works, but sounds horrible.

What are my possible solutions? The first thing I am going to do is disconnect the sub. The problem is I was hoping to keep the sub in the center console due to size concerns. I dont want to build any kind of enclosure for the back and under this seat is not an option. I actually use the back area of my Jeep and I have a 7 year old, who rides in the back.

The new Deck that I installed is an Alpine CDE-HD137BT-CD. It is pretty sweet with Bluetooth phone and audio streaming.

I installed 4 Polk Audio DB 521's. The fronts mounted with Nalin brackets in the dash and the second pair is in the sound pods.

The problem is the Sub sounds like crap, beyond crap. Im not sure if its torn or blown out, but it sounds awful.

Any help is appreciated.

Also what you can do is a idea i got but never did there's some speaker boxes made for 6x9 speakers that sit on top your rear fender wells between the back seat and the side seems like it would work just put an amp under the seat

Both, not sure how to explain, but the sound is very distorted and depending on the music it has bad distortion vibrations. Doesnt sound good at all.

I actually feel quite bad for posting this thread. I didnt search the TJ forum until after I posted. I searched the Communications and Electronics Thread and tried to do a lot of research over there and there wasnt very much on the Sub problem. I copied that post then decided to search over here and now I see a ton of posts on it. Oh well.

Im thinking about going with the Kicker 6.5 either 1ohm or 2ohm as a replacement. Any one running that set up on the factory amp? If so how does it sound?

Kicker 10CVT652 (2 ohm shallow mount) - It's better than not having a sub, is relatively inexpensive and rounds out the sound nicely. Easy modification of the box is required. If you're not an audiophile, it's a good option.

Did the sub sound OK before the new Alpine install. Could be a wiring/install issue. I added a factory sub to my TJ that didnt come with one and it sounds great with an aftermarket head unit.

It was a little distorted. I think it blew while I was trying to set up the sound field. It has steadily degraded since I installed the new set up.

I just did this...Go buy 8 inch Kicker sub...fits perfect with just slight sniping of plastic at bottom of sub housing. I WAS AMAZED AT HOW GREAT THIS SOUNDS compared to stock center console rig so was the car stereo store staff . Cheap and very easy and sound great!
